PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
You can see the latest in my thread. Basically it's unstable after 20 minutes or so, so likely heat-related, and probably just a bad solder somewhere. I haven't had a lot of time to work with it this week, but I'll get back to it as the schedule permits.
Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
@PaulJ the only one I think you've missed is btl.
I'm pretty confident that ky second will work out of the box as they say.
@derkom makes a change, it's usually me with the broken boards. You'll get there in the end.

Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
@PhilC, your absolutely right I missed btl so I updated the list here.
Born Alive H4's.. derkom let his play in the street and is now on life support.
Paulj 2,
Kodak80 2,
Phil 1,
Icky 1,
derkom 1,
dog 1,
btl 1,
Phil who is ky ?? Also I'm questioning your place in the running for H4 gaff of the build.
That perpendicular reset chip has to put you high up in the standings. Haven't seen much from @rubber_jonnie. Maybe his new desoldering tool has saved him from any additional finger damage. Counting on seeing him on the born alive list soon.

Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
I think @rubber_jonnie is still working on his Alpha board.
Dunno a ky as of yet.
And @PaulJ dont forget I also put 10uf caps on the mfp oscillator, surely that's gotta count for something?

Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
Ah @Phil, I think ky was suppost to be "my" second one or your second one.
I'm assuming the second should be a slam dunk for ya.

Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
I certainly hope so, it's only errors that will stop it working now you've proved the SMT version works.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.
Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
I actually like the SMT board better. The only misgiving I have is if there's an issue with the MMU or GLUE you can't just pop it out. So in that light I'll most likely put it in a final configuration with a netusbee or lightning board and actually put the top on the case and use it for software development.PhilC wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2020 7:53 pm I certainly hope so, it's only errors that will stop it working now you've proved the SMT version works.
Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
Yes that does sound like a good plan @PaulJ . I'm not sure what I will do with the SMT version yet but my third board will likely be the Guinea pig for my crazy hardware ideas.

Re: PhilC's H4 Mongrel edition build x 3
Theres not been much to update you all on the SMT version of my H4 but today I did get a little time to put some of the resistors in place.
Just a few more resistors and all the headers and itll be good to go.
I really need to find a better way to do these two pin headers as they are a pain to solder. How do you guys do them?
Anyway, here's what it looks like as of now (missing chips sat on the bench ready to plug in)
