I did these with GIMP, which is free and open source. It did not find an option to export IMG files, I did one in PNG and the other in SUN Raster Image, don't know if this works.

But at least reducing to 1 bit and dithering is doable with GIMP quite easily.

Thanks. Thing seems to only use IMG format.

Last week there was a Humble Bundle of art programs and Paint Shop Pro was one of them, now owned by Corel. I was shocked it's still about I remember using it on a 486 SX25 because the viewer was awesome :D

There's a sort of free version of Adobe Photoshop that Adobe abandoned because the online servers that they used to verify your serial were shut down, they released a official free key I presume for people who actually had it and were using it, in case it needed reverifying I guess.

Some info here :

Annoyingly I have all the keys for that stuff but lost Audition 3 when I wiped my PC to do a fresh offline windows 10 install on a new hard disk (online accounts list every program on you pc. My account finally deleted today) So now I have the key for Audition 3 and no Audition 3 :blonde: Photoshop doesn't have the format I need. Paint Shop Pro is going for £8 on ebay, so I might get it.

Does gif format work on Thing then? IMG doesn't using floyd steinberg dithering. No, just tried it. Just bought Paint Shop Pro 9 for £7.99.

PI3 is the format which Snapit saves as, and I can view these in XnView. Tried this format on Thing and after much back and forthing I believe Thing uses only IMG format for it's desktop pic. I have bought a download copy of Paint Shop Pro 9, which allows me to save as GemPaint which is IMG and I have just managed to use with Thing (Hooray!) Annoyingly XnView will view IMG and PI3 files, while Paint Shop Pro 9 will open IMG files but not PI3 files from Snapit, so I need to use both of these programs. Another odd thing is that you can't double click an IMG file to open with Paint Shop Pro 9 even if it's been assigned to always open with the application. The application has to be started first. (Just realised that I can drag and drop files into it's workspace though :D ) Still...this is all running on Windows 10. I think being able to get screenshots from the Atari and have Atari desktop pics has been worth it
