New Tools page, and the email checker has moved
There is now a TOOLS link in the forum navigation bar. Everything listed on it is hosted here on this server, and the page exists purely as a set of shortcuts so people can find these things without digging through old threads for a link somebody posted three years ago. At the moment it covers the NRV packer, the email checker and the IP ban checker. I am sure the list will grow over time as I think of more things to put on it, and suggestions are welcome if there is something you keep hunting for. The link only shows for logged in members with a couple of posts under their belt, mostly so the bots do not bother with it.
The email checker itself has moved into the forum. It now lives in your User Control Panel under the Check email tab, and there is nothing to fill in. Press the button and it sends a test message to whatever address is registered on your account, which is the whole point, as that is the address the forum will actually use when it needs to reach you.
If the test email does not turn up within about half an hour, then it is not going to. Mail leaves the server immediately and nothing is queued at this end, so any delay is entirely down to the receiving side. Check your spam folder first, since that is where most of them end up, and if there is still no sign of it then your address is not working properly and you should change it in your profile. Otherwise password resets and notifications will quietly vanish into the void, which is no fun for anyone when you are locked out.
There is a limit of ten tests an hour per account, which should be about nine more than anybody needs.
The old standalone page at /testmail/checkemail.php has been retired and now just points at the new one. If you had it bookmarked, time to update the bookmark, and possibly to dust it off first.
Can all registered uses please login, even just for a few minutes..
It helps build a picture where our "good traffic" is coming from..
Thanks :)
