Well, I was on Atari-Forum a bit earlier and it kicked me off (well,
stopped responding and timed out).

I've been trying to get back on for the last couple of hours and can
not... :(

It loads for me.
I get the impression after all these months, that nobody is "at the wheel" on that forum anymore.

Fine for me, but it's been suggested that if there are a lot of images in a thread that can knock you off temporarily.

Yeah, its got some sort of flood protection which seems to ban for 24 hours.

Problem is, flood protection doesn't work as a defence, not exactly anyway. In order not to ban legit users, you have to have a high flood limit, to the point its questionable if it's even worth bothering with in the first place. I learned all this the hard way..

I reckon you could consult for the other forums, we seem to be one of the most stable.

I did half think about it. But it would be a full-time job and i wouldn't do it for free, and nobody would likely want to pay either. But it basically couldn't be done. We have tons of custom stuff setup which is constantly being tweaked. Doing that on more servers would be a nightmare to keep on top of.

I'd maybe consider hosting other forums to stop them vanishing. But that has its own issues. To host a phpbb forum I'd need to update my server package etc which would cost. Considering I'm spending £100 a month on AI just to help me keep up these days, donations don't even cover that cost, nevermind the hosting costs, backup storage etc plus all the work involved. Nginx setup is now 1,000+ lines long just on the forum.

So I *Could* host other forums. But aside from said issues.. Don't forget Microsoft and Cloudflare block stuff to exxoshost.. That would result in lots of people moaning they don't get notifications anymore. And I'll get the blame for that! And i can't fix microsoft. I tried for over 2 years and gave up. Imagine the complaints which would land at my door.. I've seen that movie before.. I know how it ends..

Well I was only half serious...

But yes, it would be full time and without payment and highly impractical. Not sure how much other forums would like being hosted by you.
