Hey Jon, just quickly logged in to say congrats on the aquisition of the ATW800/2 board. :)

FYI, some IMO exciting/cool new SW is being produced by DML on his site: https://www.leonik.net/dml/sec_atw800.py

Other than the Doom demo that everyone was raving about, I imagine you want to look at this stuff too!

Possibly the note is something new, but it was front and center when I opened the box.

I actually read the manual and it does state it there too, but the note was a nice touch IMHO.

One thing is though, I was heading down the road of a Nova VGA adapter and also have a board for a VME et4000, so the issue now is I spent money on that and don't need it anymore!

I'll have to have a clear out and recoup some of what I've spent.

I have to say the HDMI image and resolutions are amazing.

Looking forward to trying the Transputer side of things.
On page 20 of the manual I found the line:

"1. If you're going to use the card in a *Mega STe*, set jumper ADDR. For
the TT leave it open".

I'm thinking I probably mentioned to them, at the time I bought it, that
I was going to use it in a Mega STe and they pre-set it. I know I didn't
change any jumpers. It was (almost) completely plug 'n play, aside from
getting the AUTO folder software and base software installed.

Really great product, IMHO.

Wait until you run the DOOM demo - you're gonna love it! :)

Yeah, there is a red jumper as well that I also had to set.

Only got as far as Helios and Xwindow. Xwindow is very slow, but I may need to do some other stuff to make it work better. Manual again I expect...

So how do you run Doom? I really do want to see it, and what resolution/colour depth are you using?

Ah, important note: Always run Transputer stuff in 256 colours, ie; helios and demos etc.

With Doom the resolution doesn't matter so much because it upscales the 320x240 (or whatever it is) res up to your desktop res using a special technique of the graphics chip. But I'd suggest starting it in a 4:3 res at least, nothing crazy :) But yeah make sure 256 cols.

I *think* you will find Doom inside C:/ATW800_2/TRANS.DEV/DOOM. To run it, you open the Mupfel CLI, browse to the doom directory, and then type 'ifull.mup' and it should open and run full screen. It's important to run all Transputer demos/apps from the Mupfel CLI as it has all the transputer tools available as environment variables.

For more demos, check out /trans.dev/vgademos.occ/bin/ and inside Mupfel type: 'irun ......demo' so for instance, 'irun apfel_a' --- the 'a' designation means it runs on the internal fpga transputer. non 'a' ones use a real transputer in slot 1.

Here's the video they posted on Youtube:

Here's a message thread over at Atari-Forum where I got it running:

I had to update the firmware on my card, for one thing. But...since yours is
so new, I'm betting it's fine.

You can run it in different resolutions. I had it running full screen at a couple
of different ones but I usually stick to 800x600. I know, the card will do a lot
more but on the 27" Dell monitor I use, 800x600 is still big, sharp, and very
easy to read for me. :)

Ahh, good to know 256 colour mode is what's needed for Helios :)

Thanks

Yep, it'll run Doom...

IMG20260602100629.jpg

It's surprisingly fast and though there's no sound yet and it isn't yet playable, I have no doubt it'll end up fully working at some point.
