Yes they added a tiny stereo ADC which can either be added to existing RGB2HDMI carrier boards (or the RPI) via an add-on PCB you solder on-top (people are starting to make newer carrier boards with it integrated but I don't think there is a Atari shifter one yet).

If you look carefully at the photos previously in this thread from chakobsa you can see the audio add-on board soldered on-top of his Pi.

So this is a single board that is added to existing rgb2hdmi. That's excellent.

On my STfm I put the hdmi on top of the serial port. I think it just needed a small shim to get the height right.

Is there a reason you didn't fit it central to the serial port? Did it foul with the FDD?

My OCD would go nuts with an offset like that :D

I can't recall. I think it was so it wasn't under the modem symbol.

Makes sense. You didn't know how deep you would need to cut. Didn't want to loose the telephone symbol.

chakobsa wrote: 04 Nov 2025 07:36 I can't tell any difference from the analogue audio you would get from the monitor port to what is now being provided over HDMI. The sound like the picture is crystal clear. The beauty is it's now via 1 simple digital cable which can be pumped into an AVR.
Right, that's pretty much what I was expecting. I just went with the RCA jack at the time, because
that's what I had available and in the case of my STacy, with no speakers on the replacement LCD
screen, it just made sense. The sound coming through the LG XBoom box, in simulated stereo is
pretty good to me.

Thanks for the reply. :)

I think it also helps when using a right angle plug so it doesn't stick out at the side.
