Issues getting into Amiga OS 3.2

Hi,

I just installed my TF536 in my Amiga 500 Rev. 8A. I had the Kickstart 3.1.4 ROM available from an earlier project and installed it in this Amiga. I'm using a V.H2 CF adapter with a blue and white 8GB CF card, and I tried getting OS 3.2 to run.

Unfortunately, I tried absolutely everything and I couldn't get it to boot from CF. OS 3.2 wants you to install MMULibs after reboot, but I never got into Amiga OS; I got "LoadWB: Program failed" throwing different errors, and asking for a CPU library to move on. Well, at least an hour and three reinstallations later, I figured out I was able to install the MMULibs disk directly from the Install disk. This time, I tried limiting MaxTransfer to 0xFE00 as I read somewhere else while making new partitions, too.

Unfortunately², the installed MMULibs and CPU libraries and remade partitions didn't fix the error either, and I now run into error #80000004 or #80000006 I believe, still stopping at "LoadWB". So I still couldn't successfully boot into OS 3.2.

I don't have a DiagROM, but I ran Amiga Test Kit and scanned the RAM, it all seems fine (.5 Chip, .5 slow, 64 fast). I'm at my wit's end because from what I can tell, it could either be the OS version, the kickstart version, the CF card, or the CF adapter, or any combination of the above. Any ideas to narrow the problem down?

I figured I'll try using an original OS 3.1 next, but I have no idea if that'll throw a tantrom with 3.1.4 ROM.

Do you have an official (with the TF logo) or an unofficial (third-party) TF536? You should contact your builder directly for assistance, this sounds to me like you may have a reprinted CPU. Either that, or the CF card is failing or the IDE cable is too long (in case your 536 is not buffered.)

Things to note that you may have already tried, and assuming you had a working Amiga before trying 3.2:

On some modern Amiga OS releases, new OS versions don’t like having the ROM version changed underneath them due to the modules they install, so I would leave the 3.1.4 in there as a start.

When you set up your partitions in hdtoolbox you must set the max transfer as you mention before you write anything to the drive, rather than trying to correct it afterwards - also note you need to press ENTER after putting the value in the box rather than just clicking save.

I would start again with a new cf card, on a 200MB ish system partition, and install 3.2 from the install floppies.

Not TF536 specific, but I recently added IDE to an A500 and had no end of problems with CF cards. Some weren't seen, some would allow for an OS install, but then not boot.

I ditched the CF cards and used an SD card solution instead.

Thanks for this one. I replaced the cable and now it just works! Glad I didn't have to dig any deeper on that one. Hah.
