Can anyone tell me the height of one of the SIMM RAM expanders for the Falcon? I.e. the total height from bottom of the PCB to the highest part of the SIMM socket, or SIMM if that's higher than the socket. I just have the regular PCB type.

I want to make sure I leave enough room above the RAM expansion on the PCB before the floppy drive.

Ah, so this one is top mount for the SIMM. Hmm. I'll have to see if I can get some specs for 72pin SIMM sockets and see how far they protrude from the PCB.

The under-mount ones that I have seen have to use taller than standard two-row sockets to allow space for the SIMM above the ROM board.

Mine has a thick cardboard backing to avoid shorts with the shielding, therefore.

A lower set of sockets and top mount should be equally fine. Especially if the SIMM is mounted towards the rear of the board.

In this day and age, I probably woudn't bother with a SIMM adapter at all, though. Just more contacts to go wrong!

Not all of them had SIMMs underneath, some had them on top. DJBase made one that the SIMMs went on top.

1) You had to cut/remove the metal shielding
2) It only worked with one type of 16MB SIMM (those with 4Mx4 parts and not ones with 2Mx8)
