Yet another Ebay fee...

Post by mrbombermillzy »

Just bought a 1541 drive from ebay and wondered why there was an extra (compulsory) cost:

From what I remember, they are now charging extra fees for private sellers. They really want to crush small sellers, seems to be the trend these days :(

IIRC they are limited to how much you can sell before having to operate as a business.. so if someone dies and you do a house clearance or something on eBay, your now a business.

+1.

People were quitting evil bay in droves around the time I got banned which must be like 10 years ago now. They got tired of constantly being strangled with fees etc I had long talks with some of them as well about it all. Imagine how many small sellers and businesses have been driven off the platform over the past decade...

What makes me laugh (well, figure of speech; Im really not laughing at all) is that they are punishing the poor buyers for any bad seller behaviour.

Its a bit like charging someone a fee, just in case a burglar robs their house, rather than jailing the burglar.

Hang on a minute...have I just described the essence of house insurance?

Car insurance definitely...

When I was selling, I was getting punished for bad buyer behaviour..... I will refrain from the 20 page rant about it all again......

Well, we all pay insurance thats for sure...

Car, House, Holiday etc, it's all the same, pay just in case.

The real result will be if eBay actually start siding with buyers rather than sellers when things go sideways.

Not sure it will change much and eBay just get to make a load more cash...

The difference being other than the car one, they are optional.

Car insurance is required by law. Ebay buyer protection is not.

So Ebay has taken it upon themselves to create a compulsory payment, when alternative actions (i.e. appropriately punish the instigator or 'wrong doer') can circumvent this.

Seems like excessive money leeching for a selling portal, which is all they are, as they dont take care of anything else any more it seems.

Thats it basically. Nothing will change unless people vote with their feet, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

Though I would add that whilst house insurance is optional, most financial institutions require you have it as a condition of a mortgage. In fact they usually try and sell it to you when you take out said mortgage...

It was my impression that they moved the fees from the sellers to the buyers?
