Oldskool’s Raven and w32i issues

Post by Oldskool »

So I have some graphics issues with the w32i.
The et4000 works perfect in all situation.

@agranlund
Before settling for the slower et4k. What is your opinion on this problem. Is the w32i just broken?

W32i issues
Emutos buildin driver: a lot of visual issues also at boot

Emutos with Nova/nvdi: at boot it looks OK when moving windows or menu the glitches come. Opening text files is perfect with very fast scrolling.

Mint xaaes standard setup nova nvdi: Least amount of graphics issues. Menu is more stable then emutos. Moving windows still causes graphic issues. Except the xaaes window. I can move this without any glitches. Scrolling text is perfect (in a window).

So weird, especially the inconsistency of the issues!
Even the boot screen is failing to blank the background to black, but then somehow manages to draw the logo.

It would be interesting to test my w32i in your computer and your w32i in mine if you're up for that?

As a side note, and it's probably not at all related to the issue you are having seeing as the ET4000 is working as it should.
I did have a graphics issue on moving mouse + windows at one time in the past but not exactly like what you are describing, and I'm not sure which graphics card I had in at the time (though it probably wouldn't have mattered).
It went away after re-seating the simms and pushing on Narnia + 68150 - not sure which, if any of these was what solved it.
My board has gone through a lot of abuse.. it flexes quite a bit every time I swap isa-cards and I was doing that a lot.
Perhaps it was that and I have some slight wear and tear on a solder joint, or perhaps one of those components weren't seated properly.

Yes weird isn’t it.
Agree the problem is very inconsistent. But it is very repeatable and reproducible.
Maybe memory issue on the card but I’m very doubtful as the problem is very reproducible and not random.
It’s not the mc68150 as I have tried 4 now.
Probably best that I send you this card. I have your address I think.

I have a computer case but I did not put the pcb in yet because this w32 thing is nagging at me.
Going back to the normal et4000 feels like a big downgrade when you have seen the w32 speed you just don’t want that standard card anymore :)

Yeah I couldn't go back either. I'm mostly in text editors and it's such a massive difference when scrolling :)

Cool, I'll package up my card tomorrow and put it in the post the morning after.

@agranlund

Your card just arrived.
Tried it and it is perfect. So the Raven is perfect.

The card looks really similar to mine. One thing I noticed was that it fits a bit tighter in the slot than my et32.
Mine was a tiny bit loose in the isa connector.
So lets see what you find. Would be crazy if it works at your end. Or if it is the isa connector type (aliexpress)…
Lets see.

@luciodra

I just copied the appropriate files:

https://github.com/agranlund/raven/rele ... .A1.latest

Then NVDI.
Mint should be last. Or just try without mint and nvdi first. Ofcourse you need to do the setup first. Very easy😀

NVDI 5 ? With the whole installation or is there a version adapted to the purpose?
