it gives me the error "JEDEC file is not valid for this device. Please select a valid JEDEC file!" :?

It gives an unobvious error message if the cpld is not powered so perhaps it's that?
I've never seen the one you mentioned but mine says something like "Hardware and software mismatch" when the target is not powered on.
I use AtmelISP v6.7 for Windows XP. Never tried v7.3 for later Windows in case that's what you're using.

Are you getting 5V on pins where you'd expect 5V when powered on? As in powered on using the PWR button on the motherboard to bring your PSU out of standby mode? A LED connected to the frontpanel header is useful to see if the board is powered on or off (should have had smd leds on the board...)
At this stage I "usually" verify psu,power,reset and that I am getting correct voltages in places I expect them; 3.3V, 5V, 12V, -12V, -5V

I'm using 7.3 as I have Windows 10. The strange thing is that the error gives me before I turn on the Raven...

I'm just an idiot!
I'm not familiar with Windows and I used to download the JED file by right-clicking on it and then downloading the link... only that the file contained the link !
I downloaded the JED correctly and everything worked...

Came up with another excuse to actually use the computer; start over with the manual and create it on the machine itself instead of the Mac.
Just getting familiar and experimenting with the different softwares at the moment and it's quite fun.
I really have no idea which of all these Atari DTP softwares are considered best but Papyrus X feels surprisingly intuitive and modern in use.

My workflow for exporting to a sensible format is a bit convoluted still, but hey, it works :)
I print the document through NVDI, using the HP Laserjet driver and outputting to file.
Then I bring the PCL over to the Mac and convert it to PDF.

MagiC would be nice and probably not outside the realm of possibility considering sourcecode is available. Something to experiment with on a rainy day perhaps :)

PHP remote print was able to detect and communicate with a network-shared virtual (pdf) printer running on my Mac, and it printed the test page just fine.
Wasn't able to get printing directly from Atari programs to work though and I suspect it's because the virtual printer doesn't emulate anything NVDI has drivers for. The virtual printer I used is open source though so one could probably cobble something together to make it accept PCL.
This is definitely worth looking into some more :)

There must be an Atari build of Ghostscript kicking around to do your PCL->PDF conversion natively, I'd have thought?
