problem with dfb1X

Post by eric123 »

Good evening,
I'm having a problem with my falcon and the dfb1x.
when I put my CF card reader or an HDD as master and my DVD burner as slave on the IDE port, I get at startup under the Atari logo "warning: bad rom crc in chip E."if I remove the slave everything works correctly
and it resets constantly or I get 11 bombs.
my power supply is 300w and gives 5.2 v the capacitors are changed in my falcon. If I deactivate the dfb1x card everything works fine. I tried to deactivate the flash but it crashes after the memory test.
I deleted the flash and reinstalled the TOS on bank 0 but the same.
Not understanding the problem I ask if anyone has ever had the problem.

I would assume the problem is lack of buffering on the Falcons IDE port as you get odd errors the more you plug in. My only suggestions is to try placing another 10K sill on the back of the IDE databus (or across the falcon SILs) and see if that solves the problem.

I can only say that this last week I've been trying to get a slave IDE to work in my Falcon, and I simply cannot. No combination of IDE/CF/SD/adapter combination, in any order, made any difference for me. I have no solution, I've simply just given up on the idea :)

thank you for your feedback, in fact I had 2 nec 2500 and 2510 DVD burners but the falcon doesn't like them. I put a lite-on and no more bad crc at startup but problems on the tos at times.J I had also forgotten to remove my 882 from the motherboard. I read it afterwards. In summary I decided to use a scsi cd reader so that no more problems.

Not sure it will help...but I eventually went for one SD to IDE adaptor plus one CF adaptor in my Flacon (with a standard IDE lead with 3x connectors).

This is to allow me to move files between the PC and the Falcon while still booting from IDE.

I'm not saying this is the only way to do it, just that it's working for me...and still seems fine with the DFB1X in the system as well.

Pretty sure it was configured like that (I don't think my SD2IDE allows it to be a slave) but will confirm that this evening & let you know!

watch out ...!

Most SD to IDE adapters are cable select and the Atari does not support that.

Hmm I'd be interested in finding one that works with Atari...

I'll get a photo of the setup in my Falcon to post this evening.

I think I followed a recommendation from another forum member so will post that if I can find it.
I think they came from the UK too, as I was impatient to use the Falcon with HD Driver 11...
