1040STE Not booting

Post by Lee Is Clueless »

Hello All,
Having a little issue with my 1040 STE with it not booting and staying on a blank white screen, after knocking into it recently.

I have checked to see if anything is out of place and or needs reseating, bought a diagnostic cart (nothing) and bought new TOS chips and adjusted the jumpers to suit... Still nothing.

Bar removing, cleaning and reseating (waiting on contact cleaner) i have no idea what has or could of happened.

open to ideas and suggestions

Probably one of the custom chips (probably MMU) needs to be reseated.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

The 68000 is stuck in the reset loop. The capacitor(s) that are in the reset zone of the motherboard are dead, not doing anymore their job.

This problem cannot be inspected and checked with the ST diag cart. There are no options allowing this.

Replace them there are 2 or 3 (correct me if i'm wrong on the amount), and then check again the reset behaviour Lee.

Look here, Exxos has posted some informations regarding the STE reset problem : viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2175
