Re: Server updates
I need to update the HTTPS certificate stuff. So if anyone starts getting random HTTPS related problems then you know why... :hide:

Re: Server updates
I've done some tweaks to the Nginx configuration just. A lot of stuff on my website was coming up 404  So if anything starts acting weird then let me know.. Indeed if anything anywhere does not appear to be working correctly then let me know.

Re: Server updates
Good point.I have not done one for a while. They only really get done when something on the system has actually changed. Don't think I have done a full disk backup for the past few weeks. When be today anyway,There are pending updates but with my luck with computers lately i'm not going to install them just yet
Though general backups are done hourly to a remote site automatically. The site goes off-line when I do a full disk backup. generally I don't need to do one unless something "system level" gets / about to get , changed.

Well I'll be about to remind you that the site is down if you do the backups :dizzy:exxos wrote: 21 Jul 2023 10:03Good point.I have not done one for a while. Re: Server updates
In case anyone is not following the threads about email problems..
I have updated the forum mail server just back to exxosforum mail server. It was using idnet before, but on a insecure port. So we are now running on my own mail server which is secure. I will try and keep an eye on the microsoft blocking thing again.. but I really do suggest people stop using their mail services anyway.
EDIT:
The wiki is also now using my own mail server on exxosforum.
So store, forum, wiki, all now are using my mail server. Let the carnage commence...

Re: Server updates
There is 72 server updates to install. Amazing since I only did all them like updates 2 weeks ago!!
I will post before I do them. Things will likely be broken or down during the updates..
Will likely install them sometime next week.. So take this as forewarning...

Re: Server updates
I have noticed that regularly forum seems to hang for about a minute.. I don't know if anyone else noticed this or not yet...
Long story short, I have found that this is down to canonical livepatch.
While real-time updates are good to a point, I don't think it is good, at the point where it starts irritating the users (IE ME!!!  ).
So I am going to see if I can increase the interval and what it is checking for updates, as its got a little bit ridiculous with all the constant hanging!!

It's updated the kernel several times today already  :shock:Canonical Livepatch patches high and critical linux kernel vulnerabilities removing the immediate need to reboot to upgrade the kernel, instead allowing the downtime to be scheduled.

Re: Server updates
I fiddled with the nginx config today. Hopefully the forum will be a bit more "snappy" now.
