I can't image they have my password :stars: , I got no emails for forgotten password. But in anycase, my FB profile is pretty much locked down anyway. I don't really use it for much these days. I can only assume the odd comment I make on other posts are where people are finding me.

I have seen a huge amount of fake profiles lately, its insane. They look genuine, but not the real people. Its simply not safe to comment on posts anymore. I started deleting posts because of scam relating "mentions". I also think even liking posts is probably a security risk these days.

I just turned on "login attempt notifications" and turned on 2FA. I suggest otheres do the same, if you haven't already.

As an IT professional (questionable) I walked away from Facebook in 2008 and never looked back. Even now I get the occasional log in attempt despite best efforts to get Facebook to delete my data.

A generation of children bullied, marriages destroyed, people prosecuted for having an opinion. Photos of bits of toast and the dog. Personal details stolen. The list is endless.

Do I want to talk to those old school buddies? Nope. Let them be. I've moved on.

Ahhh Facebook. Cambridge Analytica anyone?

All software can be useful when used in the right context. I don't have a 'personal account' on facebook, I have an alias, which has no friends (so I don't get recommended to people I know) and I use it purely to view hobby/interest groups, like ST/Falcon pages. And the occasional use of Marketplace. This way, it's quite alright.

But I 100% agree with you, when used in it's 'regular' fashion, Facebook is an absolute cesspit of garbage. If I were to get philosophical on you, I'd say it's a mirror of the majority of humanity. Like the 'default' front page (not tailored to you) of YouTube. It just shows the depravity of our civilisation.

Usually what happens is either of these two things:

1) you're using the same password on Facebook as you do somewhere else, and that other place has gotten hacked. You need to change that password on all sites where you're using it.

2) You clicked on a link that sent you to what looked like a Facebook login page, but it wasn't, and you entered your password there.

With some patience you can force Facebook to show you actually interesting content (I mean apart from those liked pages/groups). At least I thought so -- just recently I have discovered that even the nice/interesting topics (history, archaeology, comparing past/present pictures etc) have fake posters. Yeah, just like that, you have a page about ancient Europe and it produces made up facts/stories.

After the first shock I have realised that it's not even strange: the more angry commenting people how ridiculous the story/claim is, the more interaction you, as the page owner, get and therefore your page is more valuable / recommended to others.

What a twisted world we live in...

Ugh, use almost zero social media nowadays. Tried facebook back around 2014 but found myself constantly checking the feed and had a thousand friend requests. Deleted it almost immediately and never looked back.

Did use twitter a year or so ago to snag a PS5 when the supply issues were bad via a supply tracking thingy. Ended up getting it via PS Direct which was cool.

It's pretty normal. Somebody has your account details and is attempting to break in by trying passwords, so unless you have a really poor password, just report it and be done with the scum :)

A friend of mine went for a job interview at Facebook and left it early deciding it was getting too shady by half. She's a merchant banker and this was the height of the 'bankers are the devil' period.

=> Facebook too reputationally damaging for bankers to stomach!
