Whilst on holiday, we were staying with family, and my sister in laws husband asked if I'd look at a JBL speaker for him.
It had been dropped, and he said he took it apart and found a component had been knocked loose by the drop, but he'd glued it down and it had worked for a while but then stopped, and would I take a look.
It's this fella here:
So I pulled it apart, which is actually quite easy, he said the part was obvious, which it was, and it turned out to be a large inductor at one end of the board. Clearly the impact had caused one end of the inductor to break away, and his temporary repair had held it in place for a bit, but it really needed soldering.
So I removed it cleaned up, and it's back on now, and continuity from pad to pad is good, so all I need to do is reassemble and test. Fingers crossed.
