Falcon display query

Hi

I'm having some confusing problems with monitor output on the Falcon I picked up today.

I'm using the Exxos vga adapter and either running in RGB or VGA node I can't get a stable display and the screen flickers off every now and again.

Doing a test right now and the RF output is displaying Obsession perfectly but the monitor keeps losing signal.

So it points towards either my monitor (the Dell 27" that runs perfectly with the STe) not liking the falcon of maybe the USB power supply I'm using with the adaptor?

Any ideas?

I have a Dell SE2722H and it works flawlessly with my Atari STE, Falcon and Amiga 1200.

My VIDEL is overclocked internally though.

Would the diagnostic cartridge help me diagnose the issue?

Probably worth picking one up anyway as they are so cheap.

You haven't mentioned how you have the adapter setup. I don't know much about this stuff as I only used it once...but.?

Assuming you have a osc and it's powered, this basically over clocks the videl for higher resolutions . You have to use the software to set that up.

If you haven't done that, then the falcon could trying to output a standard video frame with a over clocked videl.

So my first point of call is to remove the osc and try that way. Beyond that I'm afraid I don't know. It could may well be your monitor doesn't like the falcon.

Usb power is only for the osc. You only need the osc when over clocking the videl for higher resolutions.

The adapter itself isn't much past a straight though adapter. It just converts the falcons video connector to a vga one.

I did experience something like this when I tried the blowup. I think it was down to running resolutions /colours that were stressing the Falcons bus too much. I think you should be able to get close to 800x600x16. But it's more like 790x535x16. But anything more is probably going to cause problems I think.

I last stopped playing about with it at about three this morning so can't fully remember but I think the problems were there without using the OSC and just trying standard resolutions.

One weird thing was I tried a sound tracker, can't remember which one right now, and the display was rock solid, but it looked like it was running in ST low res.

I'll try again this afternoon on both VGA and RGB settings, and will confirm that the STe still works on the monitor in case I'e broken the monitor itself!
