Re: Exxos's PiStorm blog
If I can't remember how to fix this (I think I encountered the same problem when I moved an SD card between Pi's) Or even if I do remember how to fix it, and it's just too much 'faffing about' then perhaps we should just focus on a clean installation of the OS after all. I can then simply zip-up my Pistorm Github directory for you. I think that might be the way to go.

In part it's why I wondered if someone could just do a bash script to install everything automatically..

Looks like it's complaining about /mnt/atari -- that's not a Pi problem but a customisation one.Steve wrote: 18 Apr 2024 14:38 If you don't mind, I'll get back to you on this! Perhaps someone else who is seasoned with Pi's and Linux might have an idea. @Badwolf ? Perhaps. Hopefully I can remember what to do at some point, if my brain and memory starts working.
Did you set up some kind of remote filesystem under that with the wrong 'pass' setting & it's not available?

That's mounting the atari image file for SMB to share. But I guess it cannot find it, because it hasn't mounted the root parition.Badwolf wrote: 18 Apr 2024 15:09Looks like it's complaining about /mnt/atari -- that's not a Pi problem but a customisation one.Steve wrote: 18 Apr 2024 14:38 If you don't mind, I'll get back to you on this! @exxos I think we should just drop this since while it is possible to fix, I think you'd lose what's left of your sanity. Perhaps just follow the guide, set up the pi-storm the way it's intended. Then if the current build doesn't play nice with your H5, I can just share my old firmware file with you to try. That's probably the way to go from here.

Well... :)Steve wrote: 17 Apr 2024 19:25 @Darklord If you mean 'spoken two sentences in the last month' I guess you're about right :) But in all seriousness, since his pi-storm died on him the project is in stasis at the moment. Probably until more dev's magically appear to help, as he did say he's achieved everything he can do by himself at this point.

Re: Exxos's PiStorm blog
Back to square one then. The problem I see in all this is that overall I think it is just going to be too complicated for the majority of people to set up themselves. Could be why not many people have done this so far. While the SD card would have been good, that's not simple either.Steve wrote: 18 Apr 2024 16:16 @exxos I think we should just drop this since while it is possible to fix, I think you'd lose what's left of your sanity. While I'm certainly not trying to knock support in discord (actually hate discord anyway) , I just don't have time to be involved in real-time conversations. I have tried many times before and I either forget I am in that chat, or never get chance to read anything. Several hours pass and I end with pages of stuff to catch up on and just think I can't be bothered want to go to bed. But that in itself, just further proves how complicated this thing is going to be to set up. Plus with cryptodad and badwolf not being around much, I think it's going to be a bit of a problem anyway. IMHO I think splitting off support away from the forum isn't a good idea either.
If ultimately people wanted me to put together complete kits with things ready to plug in and go, going through the installs that multiple times just isn't going to happen. In which case copying the SD card would have been a simple thing. Once the setup it can just be copied and supplied in the kit and basically done. But even that isn't going to be simple, even if it was possible to copy the SD card and get it booting. Even if it has to be configured to connect to people's wifi to update etc could be a problem in itself. I mean I am 8 pages in and the only thing I have managed to accomplish is buying the pi and crashing it
I think this is the problem, there is just too much software involved in things these days. It just seems to be software stacks on top of software stacks where multiple steps can lead to chaos very easily. I don't know anything about the software personally, so it's not like I can maintain it anyway.
I'm not trying to sound negative, but even if I get mine up and running, "whats next" ? As good as this project may be, I am really wondering if I'm setting myself up to hitting another brick wall again. I think something really needs to radically change on how all this stuff is set up. A lot of people out there are not software experts, including myself. While it may be "fun" for others to mess with, I have enough headaches with the server running Linux and messing with more Linux stuff isn't really on my to do list.

Re: Exxos's PiStorm blog
Heatsinks come.
I will have a look at the install again and go back to "page 1" when I can. But hands hurting bad again, so might not be able to do much.

Re: Exxos's PiStorm blog
These have been shipped. These are with the 374 latches. I got 15 made (wasn't cheap!) . They don't have the header strips, just SMT stuff built. They will be heading to my store at some point soon. Hopefully it will encourage more people to get started if they can get the proper stuff to get started with!
