Re: Apples aren't the only fruit.
Other than patience?
12mm x 6mm thick open foam tape, mylar emergency warmth blanket, a 11mm open hole punch, hammer to punch the mylar along with a block of wood, a cutting board to cut the foam on, a pad to prevent the punch damaging your hand as you use it to cut the foam and some PVA glue.
The foam would be better if it were 4mm thick as 6mm is too close to having contact all the time but 6mm was thinnest I could get with as 12mm wide strip.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: Apples aren't the only fruit.
The keys I've already done seem to work fine, but I've not tried it with the keyboard screwed together and hence with a smaller tolerance between the foil and the PCB. It could be that it's like all the keys are being pressed at once!

That set of 32 pads fitted, all working. 29 more to go!

Re: Apples aren't the only fruit.
Miscounted, it was 32.
Anyway, during the time it's taken waiting for the AA to turn up (called at 8:40 am with an initial ETA of 9:40am but now 11:20am) I've been able to manufacture those last 32 pads. I'll let the PVA dry for a bit before fitting them, testing and then reassembling the keyboard.

I take it the AA is for the BMW? Hope they can get it sorted. I have to say when my wife called them last week they got there within the hour.
Fingers crossed that the keys don't all make contact when you reassemble the keyboard.

Re: Apples aren't the only fruit.
Yeah it's for the BMW. Seeing as I'm a low priority (safe position, at home etc.) I can understand why my call would be pushed back a bit but only to a certain point.

Re: Apples aren't the only fruit.
Yeah, to be fair my wife was stuck in a hospital car park with her partially deaf/blind Dad, so kudos to them for bumping it up for her.stephen_usher wrote: 05 Mar 2024 10:55 Yeah it's for the BMW. Do the AA carry such things as springs these days? It's quite a job to replace, I know from personal experience of doing one on my wife's C3. That was a long time ago thinking about it!!
