A blast from the past sort of - Altairduino build.

Post by rubber_jonnie »

Ok, so I figured I would post about my Altairduino exploits on here in case anybody else felt the need to build one :)

So it comes well wrapped in the box so nothing goes astray:

Once unpacked there is a plethora of parts and laser cut pieces for the case, not to mention the great big PCB for the front panel:

And of course don't forget the iconic front panel!!!

The assembly manual looks very comprehensive and I will be sticking very close to it for the build. Lots of numbered bags to work through, not to mention all the switches and LEDs to solder up.

More to come as I progress :)

Well that's annoying. There should be 2 PCBs in the kit as far as I can tell from the website and there is only one :pullhair:

Have contacted the seller and he's going to send one out, but I can get the build almost completely done in the meantime and still use it over USB direct to the Arduino if I want.

This is what you get in the kit:

Obviously there should be a 2nd PCB in there as well.

There is an experimenters version too, which doesn't have the case and is open for adding expansion cards more easily, it's called the experimenters version and is quite a lot cheaper.

Also wondering if I should change the title to Altairduino, RJ is a mug for a kit build....

Thank you :)

Once this is done I need to get back to some other projects, namely the OSI 600, my 2nd H4, my H5, and the HX-20 which has been unhappy for some time.

It's good to have variety.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

You have several irons in the fire...

I have only 5 and still need more time.

I've only got three, plus life stuff, at the moment and I'm juggling.

@HigashiJun

There is never enough time!!

@stephen_usher

Given your 3 are usually pretty complex, I think that's enough :)

In the week I just do a little here and there, too much work & life, but the weekends are usually good for getting stuff done.

Unfortunately tomorrow is going to be busy. The battery in my wife's car died on Wednesday and it is less than a year old, so I need to take it back and get it replaced, then refit tomorrow. That'll likely be a half day gone...

Going to see if I can make some progress with this over the weekend though.

I've been quite busy these last few days, and exhausted on my weekends...
