STEVE’S MS-22 DUAL VCF MODULE

Post by Icky »

I am building a kit for a friend who bought the SMT boards of the STEVE’S MS-22 DUAL VCF MODULE from Three Tom Modular and then realised SMT is not as easy as through hole soldering.

The MS-22 is a dual voltage controlled filter, inspired by the classic Korg MS-20 filter, with an innovative modulation matrix and one of the highest function-to-hp ratios in the land of Eurorack.

So time to start with Board A

Finally got some time to do some SMD work on this, the third board. I have forgotten how time consuming and annoying SMD work is even with all the right equipment. It’s almost been a year since I touched it last.

One more board to go but I dont think I can muster the enthusiasm to do it today.

Yeah, SMD stuff is a huge pain, even if you're able to do it and have good equipment. Looking good, fingers crossed you can muster a bit of enthusiasm for that last board :)

Thanks, I may give the final board a go today. Its going to be interesting as I will have to test the module works so will have to learn a bit of modular VCF

Good luck, I'm sure it'll work first time with your skills :)

I finally finished the last board of this module yesterday that's 3 years since I started. Just goes to show how life and a bit of health issues get in the way. I just need to figure out how to power this up and test as it normally plugs into a backplane board and case.
