TF1260 Boot From ehide Bootloop

Post by enigmo »

Apologies if this is a bit of a basic question.
I've built two CF cards:
  • A basic WB3.2.2 bootable CF card, dropped ehide.device in Devs, installed LoadModule, and added C:Loadmodule >NIL: DEVS:ehide.device to Startup-Sequence in the right place. Put in on-board IDE port.
  • A second WB3.2.2 CF bootable card with higher priority, much larger, with WB, games, programs, apps, updated 060 libs, TF1260 tools etc, all the stuff I think I might want. Connected to TF1260 IDE port.
On boot, on-board CF boots, hits the LoadModule, reboots, the TF1260 IDE boots, gets to Workbench, pauses a second or two, then crashes out with an error:
Software Error 8000 0009 080022ec.
it then starts rebooting again.
If I drop the TF card directly into the onboard IDE, it boots fine.

Question is: I dropped ehide.device in Devs on the TF CF card too. Should that be enough, or do I need to use LoadModule too? I don't believe so, but I'm not sure now. Or something else I've missed?

What physical roms do you have?
Do the partitions on both cards have the same names like dh0: or SYSTEM etc.

3.2.2 physical ROMs
And no, the CF card intended to be the basic boot is SDH0, boot priority 0. The first partition on the TF1260 CF card is DH0, boot priority 10

Edit: Ah. Just a thought. Both are named 'Workbench', which was an oversight by me in the first place, but they do have different labels and priorities.

Apart from the advice to just get a set of 3.2.2. Roms with the ehide driver included....
When I was doing it the way you are i seem to remember having issues where although it booted from the ehide after the loadmodule reboot, its still got confused as to where to find references to the system drive.
I would make sure the boot drive is really stripped back and is dh4: or.something and with a name other than System (or whatever your main card has) and make sure it works and that there is no crossover with the main card.

Yeah, I'll redo this basic boot card with different name and label and see what happens, but I'm thinking a custom ROM might be the way to go in the end.
As it happens, I'm quite happy with the on-board IDE at the moment. It's not as if I've ever experienced faster in my A1200 and now I'm missing out!
Thanks :)

Just watch out for hardcoded references in the startup sequence etc
