There are no SMD caps on the board, just through hole ones.

I guess the CMOS was dead, because 'DEL' had no effect at all. The machine was booting on a black screen.

The keyboard ribbon has also to be repaired, as one ribbon starts to peel.
Good that the damage is minimal and there are no SMD caps. I hate those caps, they can do so much damage it's ridiculous.

Yes, some did in my Amiga 1200...

I replaced them all with polymer SMD caps.

I got lucky with my A1200 and caught them just as they were going.

@rubber_jonnie

Lucky you ! Some caps leaked so much in mine I had to repair their pads and one trace.

Even if polymer caps are pricey, they're worth the money and you can be sure you won't have any problems in the future.

Which replacement caps did you fit in your A5000 ?

TBH I had similar caps in stock already and used those. I think I had about 5 that were bad, but I can't recall if they were polymer or not.

For my A1200 I bought a kit from Amigakit.com.

I have no much time to repair my Archie and still waiting for some parts to arrive, but I finally repaired the broken via under the Risc OS roms.

Quite blurry pics, but the most important can be seen.

The tedious part is to come...

Ok, it's over for today...

Traces under the ROM sockets are repaired:

I will now have to cover the repaired traces with my epoxy for PCBs and check all the connections again.

And the last pic of the day:

Epoxy is now spread on the repaired traces and is curing until tomorrow.
