Video connector un-f*ck

Post by exxos »

Created a new thread while I am working on a adapter board..

I edited my lib, and messed it up,The pin numbers in on the schematic does not tally with the PCB, Rodolphe will fix it later (exxos should be banned from the lib editor!)

Its good enough to check pin names on the schematic to Ickys pin names.. Here are a couple of screenshots highlighting VSYNC & CSYNC

The patch PCB would look like this.. Where the left connector solders into the MB, and then wires are swapped for the connector on the right...

PCB routed...

As said before, I will see if I can publish these on OSH park so people can order them direct. No use in me ordering them from the USA, having them shipped to me, then me shipping them out to people in the USA.. So it will be cheaper/quicker for USA people to order direct from OSH.

I will get some boards made myself, Then can post them out to UK people..

I've ordered 10 boards, paid for DHL delivery to UK. So hopefully get them in about a week.

I've been fighting with OSH site for the past 2 hours  It won't accept my Gerber files, keep saying outline missing, when it isn't. Finally gave up and emailed their support, only to get an automated reply back to sign up with their support forum.. Which I did..I don't expect a reply any time soon. Tried looking around all their help things which just sends you around in circles and is no help at all.

Finally gave up and just uploaded the eagle file where I cannot even log into my account anymore. I assume I have to sign in to upload the file public download.. Is not letting me even do that now.. Honestly their site seriously gone wonky since they updated it not long ago really getting fed up with it now.

In any case, here is the PCB file... Anyone can upload it to OSH and get three boards for about $8.. Free postage as well.. So people in USA areas should order it direct from them. It'll still be cheaper than paying for shipping from the UK to USA.

Great work Exxos.

I just had the thought and I know it’s too late but could of put the mono buffer onto this adaptor board.

Oh well - this is what comes with rapid development.

At least the STF Remake Beta board is going to be some cool piece of kit after this stint of design, testing etc.

Never gave mono a thought.. I guess we can look into that a bit further down the line anyway.

While I am waiting for the DiagRom (Thanks for sending btw) I am going to have a go at adding the mono patch in with a modified VGA cable to cover off the STF remake monitor pinout. If successful I'll update all the relevant threads.

Wouldnt it be possible to re route with Male-female connectors, it feels a bit unnecessary to order one PCB for just this ?

Just a thought.

You could, but it is a pain in the a** to solder those. So easier and probably cheaper to do on board.

I have no problems in soldering them, many people have complained about this and are soldering them with the pins in its place and the plastic melts ,,, but you can actually pull them out and soldering them and later put them back, a lot easier and faster. and YES they are sitting hard but had no problems pulling them out on any DIN connector... not tried female yet though. would be fun to try...

You can do whichever is best for you.
