Is this possibly worth releasing in its own thread rather than risking it getting lost in this one? It covers more than just the tf1260 doesn't it?

Yes, I was contemplating doing that, but figured getting some alpha/beta level testing first wouldn't hurt.
I'm basically assuming people here willing to try out alpha firmwares also understand the risks associated with hacking the disk device driver ;)

There are basically two areas where gaining more confidence wouldn't hurt:
  • Getting the widest possible test coverage of all the various PATA adapters out there.
  • Surfacing any issues related to being "embedded" in the (extended) kickstart ROM.
Ideally we'd either find these issues early, or getting confidence that no issues exist, before getting wider adoption.

there will be a final release thread.

@erique
Just confirming that this update is independent of the firmware on the tf1260? I have yet to update to the very latest firmware. I assume I don't need to before trying this? I will be home home in a few days and hope to try it then.

that’s correct - it’s firmware independent (but also only really tested with the latest firmware - i.e. if you see anything odd please let me know)

Well, I have done some limited testing but only loading it via loadmodule.
Using sysinfo with no overclocking scores me 4.3mb/s with version 1.1
Version 1.2 with no other changes scores me 4.0 mb/s
Overclocking to 100 gets me 4.9mb/s on version 1.2.
I tried some file transfers and a bit of quake and had no issues with 1.2

Like I said, very limited testing due to time but I wanted to leave some feedback as you were kind enough to post it.

I could be mistaken but I believe that with the earlier version, any overclock would result in HDD errors. I think that's what I am looking out for anyway, if no one has HDD errors at higher clock speeds, then it sounds positive.

On my rev1 with current rev firmware I still get immediate onboard IDE lockups with any overclock but the system (including EHIDE) remains otherwise stable up to 62.5Mhz, this is the same as previous versions for me.

I thought this had been overcome a while back?

Something I wondered about: I have ehide 1.0 on my Kickstart ROMs. Can I "update" it to 1.2 through LoadModule or it's not possible/advisable?
