TRF536 - No Space For New Apps Install Issue, Need Help)

Hi all,

Over the past couple of years, i purchased a TF536 from a guy in Canada who is putting the units together. It works fantastic and props out to him. My A2000 runs great and I am looking forward to hopefully upgrading it if TF decides to release an 060 version for the A2000.

The unit came (8Gig SD card) formatted and loaded with software and runs great. However I cannot install any new software as I am getting error messages that Workbench has no more space.

I am trying to install the asimcdfs software so that I can then install the OS 3.2 software from cd among other software.

When I look at the information displayed for the workbench icon, it displays the there is 2.6 gigs of space still available that i could use to create another 2.0 gig hd(DH1) but I am unable to gain access to it.

When i look at the Format screen, I see that there is about 960megs available for use.

I have uploaded screenshots of what I am referring to but I am totally frustrated at this point and am hopeful that someone can help me resolve this issue.

Jus saw that the screenshots i just uploaded are upside down. Sorry about that. Hopefully I have been able to rotate the screenshots 180 degrees so that they are readable.

That would be one of mine :-)

Your problem is that you are using an old version of the Installer command located in SYS:C/

This installer uses a 32 bit integer and if your partition is bigger than 4GB, it will go into overflow and give you negative available space values. You can download an updated version of the installer command (many are available on Aminet), replace your old one, and that should solve the overflow issues.

Also, once i install the updated installer command, I will be able to install software without getting the (no space error message?

By the way, if TF ever releases an 060 unit for the A2000, let me know and I'll be buying it from you asap!

This is a bit difficult to answer. There were many versions, some were unofficial patches, some added extra functions, there was something called InstallerNG if I remember correctly… plus there are updated versions from OS3.9 and 3.1.4 and 3.2… the best thing is to try the ones you can find and see if they work.

Because there are so many versions with different command options and functions support, it’s not easy to identify a single “good” one as some will break installer scripts. You can copy a few variants over, give them different file names, and edit the icon tooltypes to call different variants to suit your installer scripts.

That’s the idea, you need to use a newer version which is aware of drives bigger than 4GB, but as explained above, most of the variants listed above will work with simpler install scripts but may break with more complex ones.

As a point of info, I am running wb3.1.4 with kickstart 3.2. rom chip with the goal of upgrading to os v3.2(via cd-rom).

Here are the installers I have found on aminet and the results after each install:

InstallerNG: successful install but still getting the same negative space error as shown in the screenshot previously when trying to install asimcdfs from floppy disk.

Installer: crashed when trying to run the program.

Newinstaller 1.7, InstallerLG: runs the same installer as installerNG.

Installer43.3: installs stuff for the cbm installer cmd, did not install.

I was unable to find any replacement installers for os3.1.4, which also begs the question: if os3.1.4 supports large partitions why am I having an issue installing at this time? Does the asimcdfs floppy come with it's own installer command?

Yes, it's very likely the AsimCDFS floppy disk has its own installer utility which is called directly from the floppy, and not from your HDD system installation.

Open installer icon information and check where the default tool is being called from. You can change the path to your own installation (e.g. DH0:c/Installer), this way you can be sure the right version is being used.

OS3.1.4 should already have the proper installer command located in C:. You can verify this by opening a shell window and typing

VERSION C:Installer FULL

This will give you the version of your installer command.

I tried opening the floppy disk icon from workbench but found no place to enter the default tool info. So I tried with dopus 5 and was able to enter the default tool info as posted in your recent reply as the field for the info was blank. The change was saved to the floppy disk but when I start the install process using the changed disk, I am still getting the same error message of not enough space for the install.

I also changed the default tool info for the 'install-english' icon to 'DH0:c/Installer' as well with the same results.

I am thinking now the to issue is in the actual script that is being run(Install-AsimCDFS) is hardcoded and pointing to the installer command on the floppy disk. But I don't have a way to check this possibility but it something to think about.

From your screenshot, you can see that the installer is indeed being called from the floppy disk.

(AsimCDFS_v3_Install:c/Installer)

So that's the part you have to change to point to DH0:C/installer instead.

Modifiy it, press return and click on Save and it should be good afterwards.

Finally!!! I solved the problem!

I did a search for 'asimcdfs install' on google and came across this website : https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=74951.0.

I then copied a 1gig garbage file into the sys directory and ran the installer and it completed successfully!!!

The problem turns out to be that the installer does not recognize hdds greater than 2 gb in available space, so once I added a garbage file of 1gb the installer calculated positive space instead of negative space(no error messages).

Thanks again for all your help! If TF ever releases 060 accelerator cards for the A2000 and u are selling them, let me know and I'll buy one from you.

Now all I need is a sound card(Delfina Plus is my dream card), unless anyone knows of anything new on the horizon.
