Hello from Jakarta (and a 1040STF that finally boots)

Post by ekaputrigame »

Hi everyone, just saying hello from Jakarta. I grew up on Atari ST machines borrowed from an uncle who insisted they were for 'serious work', and I have been quietly collecting them ever since. My current project is a 1040STF that had a dead PSU and a very flaky floppy drive; the PSU is recapped and working, the drive is next. I mostly use it for MIDI sequencing and a bit of Dungeon Master, and I am still learning my way around the diagnostic side of things, so I will probably be asking more questions than I answer for a while. Glad this place is still going after all these years. Thanks for having me.

A small follow-up, since a couple of you asked about the recapping. I keep a rough log of the machines I poke at, mostly so I stop repeating the same wrong diagnosis twice, and the 1040STF notes are in there: my notes. It is not an Atari resource by any stretch, more of a notebook, but the PSU section may save someone a fuse or two. The floppy drive is next on the bench, and I suspect the belt rather than the heads, so expect more questions soon.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.
