Well, more preparation tonight for the festival at the weekend. I'll do the final proper packing tomorrow.
I also fixed the wiring on the vDrive sound board and made a second one to show at the festival, and possibly give away.
The final version, with the speaker glued to the rear bulkhead of the ZX Microdrive case, sounds OK as the case is amplifying the sound, e.g.
There is an annoying "ticking" sound around the end/beginning of the digitised sound clip but it's definitely good enough and about the same volume as the original drive/tape mechanism.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I suspect that you posting that message might have the opposite effect? ;)rubber_jonnie wrote: 07 Oct 2021 22:43 Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Re: General Stuff(tm)
Hehehe! You need two vDrives... one for the QL and one for the ZX Spectrum + Interface 1, which if you don't have already you need to get. ;-)

Well, @rubber_jonnie - you might save on the postage if you buy both at the same time!

I think after listening to that for two minutes, it'd be getting the wire cutter treatment from me anyway!

It's not hugely different from hearing the tape join go through every 5 seconds or so. If someone wishes to try to make a better sample then the source is on-line and freely available on Github. :-)

5 seconds, eh? Someone should do one of those Christopher Nolan style Shepard-Risset tones for it. I'm not sure if that'd be better or whether you'd have to hide all the hammers in the house.stephen_usher wrote: 08 Oct 2021 10:14 It's not hugely different from hearing the tape join go through every 5 seconds or so. Re: General Stuff(tm)
I didn't fall for @JezC 's sales pitch as I'm not entirely in the market for a Spectrum vDrive, but the vDrive QL is ordered :roll:JezC wrote: 08 Oct 2021 08:14 Well, @rubber_jonnie - you might save on the postage if you buy both at the same time!
