STDoom now benchmarks on medium at 15fps vs 9fps under original modified TOS 2.06.
That begs the question....can I use this version of 2.06 with the original ST536? Guess I'll find out!

No idea why that is , but glad that is fixed anyway :lol:coonsgm wrote: 10 Jul 2025 18:27 STDoom now benchmarks on medium at 15fps vs 9fps under original modified TOS 2.06.
Ummmm , not sure, TOS copy wont work with the original ST536.. It has some error checking, but not sure what will happen on the original ST536..That begs the question....can I use this version of 2.06 with the original ST536?
Possible TOS copy may copy fine, but it wont be made active as the ST536 firmware doesn't support the switch over ROM logic. TTram test would destroy the ROM copy anyway as its not limited to 60MB on the ST536..
:fire: :hide: :fire:Guess I'll find out!
Really the ST536 needs to move onto the 288 PLD now to use the updated stuff.. But thats a whole other load of worms to deal with yet :P
Looks good! Also proves a 50MHz 030 can't outperform the old 8MHz blitter on blitting tests :PGembench, run a few times so far.

White screen with the latest modified TOS 2.06 with the ST536. So that answers the "I wonder if" question.

Re: ST536 STE EDITION
Weird, I would have at least expected it get to the Atari logo.. Sounds like ROM isn't running at all there.. The screen should go green early on to indicate TOS has cold booted..coonsgm wrote: 10 Jul 2025 19:03 White screen with the latest modified TOS 2.06 with the ST536. Re: ST536 STE EDITION
More testing - Demos are a mixed bag some work flawlessly others like 20 years Atari runs but with with issues (graphical corruption).
With the current TOS 2.06 and Current 18 firmware, it is the most compatible yet. Both Dread and Grind (modern Doom clones based on the same code) run amazingly well. This is a first for any of my accelerated ST's with that game.
Unfortunately, the PPera hard drive adapted games seem to have trouble...maybe due to the ROM in TT Ram? I have tried about a dozen and none have properly run.

Re: ST536 STE EDITION
Yeah demos will probably break as they don't like the faster cpu. A lot of games probably won't run on a 030 anyway.
You could try jumping the 2 jumpers next to the CPU.. MMU and CACHE disable. It may help with some compatibility issues.
Its why I always go for a faster 68000. Demos will still break but the 68000 will work better with games.

PPera games aren't very compatible apparently due to how they detect the system configuration (I can't remember the details) so it's not necessarily the booster. Try the Klaz patched games, they work ok on everything I throw at them.coonsgm wrote: 11 Jul 2025 03:11 Unfortunately, the PPera hard drive adapted games seem to have trouble...maybe due to the ROM in TT Ram? Re: ST536 STE EDITION
@Steve @PhilC @Badwolf just posted your stuff back. I've got the latest firmware and ROM on them.
I've tried all the combinations of stuff and can't get anything to trip up.
We still have @Badwolf mystery to solve yet though. His STE536 runs fine here but something is unhappy with his motherboard :(
I'll work on the ST536 meanwhile.
