Didn't know you could ? Will give it a try. Can't really make things much worse.

No idea what that means. Though the desktop seems to run fine by itself. It only seems to be Chrome and Steam which have the transparency issues in Linux Mint :shrug: It only happened after a lot of stuff updated yesterday :roll:

The "Wayland" display server is the "new, shiny and buggy" display driver system which Gnome or KDE run on top of. The X11 display server is the old, well debugged display server system. You can select which desktop and server you use at the login screen before you enter the password.

Now in KDE. Seems a lot better.

Transparent problem are still there.

I've "lost" my windows desktop icons like "My computer" and can't work out how to do that yet. Don't seem to have spelling correction in Chrome either yet :shrug:

Also I have to middle click to open a second window for Chrome etc.

Also some odd bouncing icon appears when opening windows :WTF:

But main problem is voice regonition. Its killing me just to type this post :(

Unfortunately a lot of speech recognition technology is patent encumbered and can't be implemented on Linux yet. Probably have to wait another decade or so until the patents expire.

Yep that's what I thought yesterday that Linux just isn't there yet :(

KDE seems to be doing odd things. Sometimes it has alternative light dark backgrounds in files lists. Now it blurring out anything which isn't directly under the mouse pointer . It must be some odd feature but I've turned off all the effects. How anyone can use a desktop in that state is beyond me.

I think it's at the point of needing to reinstall the thing as it just seems all broken to me. It's like going back to windows 95 this is. Stuff goes weird then format drive and start again, nightly, for 2 years. Not something I want to go back to.

I mean it's taken me years to find all the apps I use in windows. It be all starting over again. It be a full-time job for years. By the time I've done all that I'll end up back at the point I'm at now again. It won't ever end.

Dawn uses her tablet for banking and related stuff. I'm thinking that could just be a option. But if I'm running Linux for steam anyway, I might as well use Firefox and do my bank stuff there.

I think there are just no good solutions . Which ever direction I go in seems like a PITA. A lot of work to do by someone who's wanting to start taking it easy and more retiring than anything. I had enough of endlessly screwing around with computers a few years back. That was before I was slowed down with RSI.

I'll probably put mx Linux on my main laptop. It doesn't get used for much. So that can be the internet machine. When I'm forced to update I won't have many apps to fight with then.

So this is the blurred problem. Notice absolutely everything is blurred out other than what is immediately under the mouse pointer! that is absolutely ridiculous. I mean I often have two windows open side-by-side, in particular when doing stupid stuff in minutes, where I need a command prompt and the guide open side by side to copy stuff about. There does not seem to be any way of turning it off.

I uninstalled KDE as it was simply more irritating than whatever the default thing was. Restarted and now I can't even log into Mint FFS.

I haven't even worked out a backup program yet to recover from such turmoil. So I literally have to reinstall the whole thing again. Now I don't know if it's worth bothering with MX it is going to start doing random shit like that. Though either chrome or mint is broken, I don't know which, with the whole transparency problem. I think either way I'm going to fundamentally end up with a broken OS in one respect or another :roll:

There is another bizarre problem as well that my windows clock is absolutely fine in general. When I boot up into Mint, the time is also fine. Though then when I do boot back up into windows, the clock is now one hour behind. Does that repeatedly! so that is another problem which should not really happen! I really don't want to spend the next six weeks googling on how to fix that either :( It is all even before getting to installing any applications that I even want to use in my daily workflow. :roll:

I have wiped MINT off my PC and put MX on. One good thing is the fonts are not messed up like they was in MINT!

Now to screw around with steam and my network stuff again :roll:

Also unknown is why my audio DAC is "stuck" in 44.1 when it should be in 192 :shrug:
