What's the end price looking like so far? I'm assuming a a few 1000 would drive it down, then quality does not come cheap.

Injection stuff is like £20 a case, but it cost like £50,000 to get the mold done.. was some info about it all earlier in the thread... even so, I might get a better deal with printing, but still being around £400 a case.. nobody is going to pay that.. I doubt I will get a second prototype even made.. just better things to invest in..

Yeah I seen that bit, so much info in here i'm getting lost. I don't think people expected the costs to go so far out of control.
I think the Amiga/C64 case remakes got away with it because they somehow got the orig. molds so instant £50K saving right there then.

Its been talked about before a fair bit.. first problem, STFM / STE case, cant do more than 1 (a good thing about 3D printing). It it gets f**ked up then goodbye £50,000+... most would want some sort of "reward" for investing on kickstarter.. then the price would have to be even higher to give them that reward.

Even so, even if it went ahead, its a massive outlay even after the mold is done.. I mean, shipping 500 cases overseas.. how much does it cost to rent a shipping boat these days ? plus where to store them all... need to bulk buy strong shipping boxes.. where to store all those as well..

So I think bottom line figure is still going to be expensive per case even if injection molding was done..

I'm surprised no-one has discussed looking for the original Atari Injection molds.

The original Atari Jaguar injection molds were bought when Atari closed by a dental camera company who re-used the molds to make cases for Dental xray equipment which looked like Atari Jaguars :)

An enthusiast eventually bought them from the Dental company and has been producing (limited numbers) of Atari Jaguar console and cartridge shells.

In 2015 they said they were going to produce a Retr0computer but nothing happened.

I would have no idea where to start looking for them. Everyone just assumes they are lost. Or if someone has them, they are keeping quiet or just not interested. Trying to find anything Atari related seems a uphill battle :(

PS: Yes I know there Amigas but still something might be learnt from their quest to obtain cases.

Just forever having the same conversations over and over.. its just not doable to keep costs something sensible.. If I had £200,000+ lay around I would buy my own house nevermind a injection mould!

Amiga guys found the moulds, they had a huge advantage to start with!

If I ever get my 3D printed case and the quality is good enough, sure I can produce new cases.. be around £600 + shipping each!

I think they found A1200 molds this time they have to make them?
I think the Commodore 64 people found there molds too.

Look at their bill $155K :(
There making molds for the key caps too, guess that makes sense in a way.

Where would you even start to look for such things?
Email anyone who is still alive who was with Atari at the end and see if they knew where all the stuff went?
Probably auctioned off to whoever, so find the liquidators maybe they have a record assuming there still in business, serious long shots.

I've given up asking anyone anything in Atari land.. can't get any replies about the chips nevermind anything else. Think there is only best-elect who likely have them.. I mean they took piles of stuff.. AFAIK hes got 2 warehouses full of stuff hes not even looked at yet :roll:

But if someone was keeping Commodore molds maybe there's a tiny, tiny, tiny chance.

So next bit of the plan find out where the cases come from?
Who did Atari contract that bit out to? (
Prob some far east factory that longs gone and been replaced by a Pokemon card printing company)
