Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
Re: Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
@rubber_jonnie do you have a floppy drive for your Apple as Well? Mine will come with a couple but no media, so just wondering on the easiest way to get stuff written to floppy from a PC or Mac.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

I don't at present, but I have ordered a Floppyemu from Big Mess O Wires in the US and it is in transit. I have a floppy controller but don't currently know if it works until the Floppyemu arrives.PhilC wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 11:33 am @rubber_jonnie do you have a floppy drive for your Apple as Well? That way I can use SD cards to put images on and just boot like they are a normal disk or hard disk. I'd have thought maybe Greaseweasel might be the best option if you want to write to real floppies.

I did ask if they had UK suppliers, sadly not as the shipping was nearly $20 on top of the unit price.PhilC wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 12:09 pm @rubber_jonnie thanks, will look into getting the BMOW one once I've got a bit more cash.
Hopefully by the time you're buying it, I'll have reviewed mine

ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.

Re: Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
I use an iPad and Apple II disk server (https://asciiexpress.net/diskserver/) to write floppies via the cassette port, it works well. I had less success with a PC but that will vary with hardware etc.PhilC wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 11:33 am @rubber_jonnie do you have a floppy drive for your Apple as Well? Re: Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
I did consider trying the cassette port and a spare tablet, but got enticed by the idea of the Floppyemu and decided to be patient. At least my AUX RAM card arrived before it, so I have been able to play with some other stuff, plus of course rebuilding my workshop.lilwashu wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 1:47 pmI use an iPad and Apple II disk server (https://asciiexpress.net/diskserver/) to write floppies via the cassette port, it works well.
