I actually love this idea. Although given the TF534 that is currently on my desk to repair (I think someone even used glue), I hate to think what they will get in the post :Dterriblefire wrote: 14 Mar 2021 11:54 OK so here is what I plan to do for the TF536 firmware.
I will fix this. The firmware will not be public. You will need to send your TF536 to one of the trusted builders to get it fixed. If you are one of those bad mouthing me you will not get it fixed unless you pay £1000.
I am through being a nice guy anymore.

Close to perfect - I'm not spending the jet fuel to send my self-built card overseas for someone else to flash. That being said I'm fine with the bugs - just pointing out that there is a small corner case of followers that through no fault of their own can't follow along anymore. I can't think of a better solution to offer up though :(

Re: TF536 - Freeze on Disk (write) access?
I have the same problem.. Do I charge for firmware where people could easily "pass it around" without my permission... Or give the files away, and make sure people buy hardware from me only.. which could be copied anyway. I don't see a solution to this. @terriblefire was pretty much forced into a corner to only pass his 060 stuff around to a closed group.dalek wrote: 14 Mar 2021 21:32 I'm not spending the jet fuel to send my self-built card overseas for someone else to flash. ... Ah yes, I can see that would be a problem. I only sell within the UK, so all of my customers would have a cheap and fast turnaround as I would only charge postage.dalek wrote: 14 Mar 2021 21:32Close to perfect - I'm not spending the jet fuel to send my self-built card overseas for someone else to flash. @exxos probably more of a ball ache than it's worth but lately in the retro gaming hardware side of things makers have been tieing their firmwares directly to serial numbers to try and prevent copycats of their stuff.

Yea, same situation mate, but I am happy like a pig in mud with both my self built TF536's (once again thank you Stephen) never had a lockup on either of them.dalek wrote: 14 Mar 2021 21:32

All my Amiga gear has been in stowage for a few months "life cycle in progress", but back in Nov-Dec 2020 was smashing them with all types of read & write access, can not recall a single issue, maybe I have just been lucky. :D

Re: TF536 - Freeze on Disk (write) access?
You know the irony of it all is i wanted to give away everything I did at cost to people who would enjoy it. That was my goal. My reasons for locking stuff down are not money but self preservation. I'll be clear. I do not care about money. But people think that spending a tiny amount of money entitles them to act (as Louis Rossmann calls it) "a customer". Sorry but I aint playing that game. You want that service go to Jens. I give away stuff for cost but with no (expected) support. I dont care what you think you've spent with me.. I spend my free time how i want.Steve wrote: 14 Mar 2021 21:56 @exxos probably more of a ball ache than it's worth but lately in the retro gaming hardware side of things makers have been tieing their firmwares directly to serial numbers to try and prevent copycats of their stuff.
Take this guy today. He wants to use the law to force a private citizen into unpaid service to fix something for him that could take years... I think they call that slavery if i'm not mistaken? This is the attitude i've seen since i've started in retro. "I've been in the scene longer than you so do what i tell you". No.. its my money/time developing the stuff.
I was bullied by a dude older than me at school... One day I snapped as he was trying to put me in a half nelson, thew my head back and i smashed his nose. He ended up getting flown to Raigmore hospital in Inverness. I have a particular problem with bullies and I will not give in to them. Maybe this will explain my ever increasing escalation of things. But to anyone out there reading this will not get what you want from me by making demands.
And in the end what did this guy achieve... when i do fix the TF536 firmware it will be come more of a ball ache than before. Great job sir.
For the "good guys" in Australia i will consider some kind of remote desktop flashing.
EDIT: To be clear "remote desktop flashing" does not involve nudity of any kind.

I guess this story will remind myself to add on my silkscreens a disclaimer message to not expect formal support from me...
