Honestly guys Booterizer is the way to go... it installs all the other pre-requisites and overlays you need for compiling software too, I think it also even patches the OS - all automatic. If you wanted to install the sgug software repo and other things you'll need the overlays and MIPSPro installed etc.

Reanimator works well also, I used it to put an OS on my Octane 2. http://irix.mersisl.com/

Re: When SGIs come to play
Yeah I saw this project and was intrigued - although I did wonder why in such a niche community that another person felt the need to create another Pi based network install software. I might try it sometime and see if it's any easier. I think the only issue I had with booterizer was that some of the instructions weren't very clear.WDB wrote: 18 Dec 2022 05:10 Reanimator works well also, I used it to put an OS on my Octane 2. http://irix.mersisl.com/

Re: When SGIs come to play
Hoping to give Booterizer a try if I can today, just need to find a spare Pi, I know I have a couple about. Will report back if/when I get anywhere.Steve wrote: 18 Dec 2022 10:55Yeah I saw this project and was intrigued - although I did wonder why in such a niche community that another person felt the need to create another Pi based network install software. Found both my spare RPIs, lets see if I can get Booterizer working on either.Steve wrote: 18 Dec 2022 10:55Yeah I saw this project and was intrigued - although I did wonder why in such a niche community that another person felt the need to create another Pi based network install software. Re: When SGIs come to play
Well, I spent some time with Booterizer today, the image installed ok onto SD card fine, and the Pi boots just fine. I also had no problems setting up the Pi Wifi and I can connect via SSH to the Pi just fine.
I have a separate switch that the Pi and Octane are connected directly, but they don't see each other, so nothing doing as yet.
Will come back to it tomorrow at some point and try again, can only assume I'm doing something wrong.

Re: When SGIs come to play
Quick test of connectivity this morning, I connected my old Win7 laptop (It actually has a physical network port!!) in place of the Octane and I can see the Pi on the build network, so I know the Pi, switch and cables are good.
I had followed the instructions exactly, but if they cant't see each other, then there is a problem, so need to figure out what's going on there from the Octane PoV.

Re: When SGIs come to play
So, Booterizer seems to be a big fat no, but I have managed to get my CD ROM working, so attempting an install.
Let's see how that goes...
