If it's corrosion, it could extend even further later.
So maybe better to have a look ?

And it bothers me too, but inconvenient for me to look at right now due to the amount of disassembly required. I will look at it at some point, just a little way down the road.HigashiJun wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2024 10:55 pm It would really bother me to know that something is not right in my machine.

Great !
I have to found some free time to continue my investigations with my A5000.
Your machine is really gorgeous.
Lucky you.

*sigh * indeed.stephen_usher wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 3:49 pm *sigh*
The problem with textual communication is that the same things can be read in multiple ways depending upon the mindset of the person reading it... and similarly can be written ambiguously.
Obviously the person who replied has a hobbyhorse about "reflowing" and its meaning, so you hit a nerve there. Suggesting that "reflowing" is from a child's book of soldering was a bit off given the context but it's the sort of reply style that I've learnt to ignore over the years as tech-geeks aren't the greatest people at inter-personal communication at the best of times.
As for "reflowing", if you look at it from a physics point of view, melting and allowing the solder to flow in that state *IS* reflowing the solder. OK, it doesn't remove oxyidation unless you use flux (as that's its job) but most other contaminants will be pushed out as a scum as they often oxydise them selves at those temperatures and are incompatible with the alloy's crystal structure anyway.

Thanks, if I can get mine running I will certainly have a look. I do have some other stuff another forum user (You know who you are) sent over, but the machine not working is a bit of a downer right now.alexh wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 5:01 pm Did you ever discover JASPP? It is the WHDload / SoftPres of Archimedes. I appreciate that not everyone wants to play games on their classic computers if it's not for you, pass on by. I enjoy playing the Archimedes exclusive "Indie" titles as they are usually exceptionally good and extremely innovative.
