Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
I have, I'll try it again, what does CDIS actual disable exactly? And do I keep jumpers on the ROM select?
Oh what I'd give for a Falcon!

Yes.. CDIS disables CPU cache..Astal wrote: 09 Sep 2022 19:35 I have, I'll try it again, what does CDIS actual disable exactly? And do I keep jumpers on the ROM select?
Did you also try this firmware ?

I only tried the final and the slow ROM ones. I'll give that one a go in a few I guess

Very flaky but I did get it to boot up once to bad ROM CRC in chip E

Are you totally sure the ROM PLCC is soldered correctly ? continuity checked it all out back to the CPU ?
I have had some issues with sockets before now and indeed week pins on ROMs. sometimes just lifting them up slightly in the socket at a angle can help contact better.
But I'm afraid because I cannot replicate this problem I don't really have any more suggestions. While you could change the bus resistors generally these do not stop the system from booting up. I do have adapter boards in the store which have the resistors on. Indeed you could also try a external ROM board. But like you say, you would probably just be better to invest in the H5 series which have all the fixes and mods already built on.

I'll recheck the PLCC, I'm pretty much 100% sure it's soldered properly, also the ROM adapter I got off eBay to program is SHOCKINGLY not working... Ha. Don't want to fork out the $80 for a proper one from Batronix but I might have to...
I have another dualTOS ROM here I could check with.

@exxos Going to get the tested CPU from you (along with some other stuff for my 520ST ;) ) and when that arrives I'll see if it works. I've got three 68030s from various sources marked RC33 to RC50 and none of them seem to fix the issue, I've got a feeling that could be it, if not it won't hurt to have a tested working RC50!

It is possible but would indeed be a run of bad luck if all of your CPUs did not work.Astal wrote: 09 Sep 2022 20:47 @exxos Going to get the tested CPU from you (along with some other stuff for my 520ST ;) ) and when that arrives I'll see if it works. All the ones in my store are tested in the ST536 for some hours. Not exactly cheap but they are getting harder to find and failures are factored into that price as well.

Yeah they're not cheap, but it wouldn't hurt. I wish there was a way to have a 33MHz firmware so I could test out an RC33, I'm 99.999% the RC33 hasn't been remarked, I also have an RC25 or whatever on a Macintosh IIci motherboard I could theoretically take and test... Thanks for all your help @exxos.

It's generally the plastic pack ones which don't clock well. The ones I sell might be marked RC33,RC40,RC50 etc, but they all run at 50mhz.Astal wrote: 09 Sep 2022 21:40 Yeah they're not cheap, but it wouldn't hurt. Thing is, they run at 8MHz during boot anyway, aside from ROM really. Which is technically limited to 32MHz effectively. So you should at least get to desktop regardless of CPU speed.
