I was unable to connect from my house this morning (7am GMT).

I assume it uses IP6 ? But really should fall back to IP4 anyway..

im working on IP6 now, looks to be coming back alive, trying to find out what went wrong..

Thanks for the report.. IP6 is broken again (for once it's not my fault) I opened up a ticket about it last night.

You got caught up in a IP range bans which had been blocked due to attacks. The unban script was changed to carve out user ranges to reduce the chance of users hitting a range block in the future.

If that's a mobile IP, then it will change every few seconds anyway. So the whitelisting users can't work.

Yes it's a dynamic IP meaning it changes every few days. A static IP was much more expensive for no apparent reason.

What I will probably have to do is only allow access to the page by forum members who are logged in because its simply getting ridiculous now..

This way, if anyone knows someone else who got accidentally banned, then they can message anyone on the forum who can then access the page to check if their IP address is banned or not.. Clearly having the unban page publicly accessible is like 99% of the time useless and just wasting my time.

EDIT:

The IP check page has been updated a bit to no longer allow request unban without checking the IP first. Also a second captcha check is now in place. The Cloudflare one seems to do nothing to stop these stupid requests !

The audacity of it is something else — their network is pumping out enough attack traffic to trigger automated bans, and their response is to send threatening demands to you rather than actually fixing their own infrastructure. That's completely backwards.

ISP location Brazil — based in Monte Carlo, Santa Catarina state, founded in 2004 Ultratelecom. They're a fibre optic ISP serving PeeringDB the Santa Catarina region under ASN 262417.

Interestingly, Scamalytics only gives them a 12/100 fraud risk score and considers them "potentially low fraud risk" Scamalytics — so it's probably not the ISP themselves sending the abuse, more likely compromised customer machines on their network being part of botnets. Which makes the threatening "unban us immediately" demands even more ridiculous — they should be cleaning up their own customers' infections rather than shouting at you.

Several more unban requests all coming from the same ip address. Because a single user obviously needs millions of ips unbanning don't they...

I'm going to have to remove public access to that page unfortunately. If a user gets banning, you will have to shout out on another group or message a forum user here to send the request via the page. I don't see any other option at this point.

Of course people should be registered here and log in every few days to keep their account active and reduce banning risk in the first place.
