Well, I did this to see what the result was:

Basically a 12v fan blowing straight onto the MMU. And it sort of helped, it took at least 45 minutes for the failure to occur, about 3 times longer than before. Recovery was a lot faster too

I think this really cements the fact that the MMU is bad, which is a real shame.

I have some dead video cards that have some very neat little heatsinks with integrated fans, so I'll see If I can extend the time further.

Fit a PC water cooling block on it and have the only water cooled Apple II on the planet. ;-)
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Don't tempt me...

Other things under consideration:
  1. A peltier cooling block
  2. An M.2 cooling block with additional cooling fans, or water cooling
  3. baking the MMU (See Adrians Digital Basement)
I'm not done yet!!

Hey Tom, my MMU part number matches yours, however my IOU is different, as your friend suggested, with a part number of 344-0022 instead of the 344-0020 of yours.

Thanks
