Like Exxos says mono doesn't output any colour information so if any colours are being generated it'd be on the monitor side. So perhaps play with your monitor OSD colour settings, maybe you're on the 'cool' colour settings.

I know but look:Steve wrote: 15 Jun 2022 10:30 Like Exxos says mono doesn't output any colour information so if any colours are being generated it'd be on the monitor side. So perhaps play with your monitor OSD colour settings, maybe you're on the 'cool' colour settings.
Before change.
After Change.
It's hard to photograph, but even fine adjusted, there are these sort of greenish vertical bands with some darker lit areas too.
I think there's something wrong with this machine, since the picture has been disappointing from the start.
It's definitely showing green where it shouldn't. More obvious in real life. I shot a video, but videos aren't working on the forum now.

It's just not showing in photos. Imagine that faint green band to the left of the info but more noticeable.

Re: The Cosmic Puppet's Universe.
Thought I'd try switching it through the OSSC and what was once a perfect picture is now jail barred and off centre.
Even if I reset the OSSC no joy.
As I say, this was fine before the change. It's like the video output has been weakened.

Re: The Cosmic Puppet's Universe.
You probably just need to tweak the timings. It's a pity that the OSSC can't auto-sense and set things up on its own. It's THE major failing of the device in my opinion. (That and not being able to export the settings before doing a firmware upgrade and then re-import!)
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Here's a side by side with the saturation turned off in photoshop.

I was just using this to show a change. It was actually working straight off the bat until I changed the DMA. :lol:stephen_usher wrote: 15 Jun 2022 11:58 You probably just need to tweak the timings. Re: The Cosmic Puppet's Universe.
I know what you're saying Tone but it's impossible that changing the DMA chip would change the video output. It's more likely that something else has been affected perhaps just by plugging/unplugging ports, or the monitor forgetting it's settings. I mean, the only way to TRULY check is put the old DMA back in and observe if it does actually change the output. Without doing that we can't make any other assumptions.

Re: The Cosmic Puppet's Universe.
@Cosmic Puppet i think I know what you’re talking about, one image has a kind of hazy colour to the grey background.
You’ve gone from one manufacturer Chip to another which shouldn’t make a difference but has. I’d try manually adjusting the monitor image sizes and positions and see if you can improve it slightly. The OSSC image now needs the horizontal size adjusted, hence the overlapping bars.

If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Re: The Cosmic Puppet's Universe.
My NEC monitor automatically sorts out the screen. Very little needed from me. If I use the fine tuning I can't get it better. The 'noise' in colour mode is also slightly worse than before. Does the fact that my Atari is NTSC matter? Although I take on what @Steve said and can put the old one back, you mentioning manufacturer, makes me think I might try another manufacturer of that same DMA, since I'd have to open up the Atari again anyway.PhilC wrote: 15 Jun 2022 18:02 @Cosmic Puppet i think I know what you’re talking about, one image has a kind of hazy colour to the grey background.

I'm gonna 'drive' it as is for a bit. The video output from this has always been poor.
Will be interesting to see any differences, like it would be wild if I put the old chip in and the screen turned to normal.
Need to have a think though, because it has stopped the Atari freaking out because the printer is switched on before boot, so something has obviously changed.
I'm starting to see what @exxos means now about fixing stuff not solving all your issues and/or creating new ones. Will try one more chip probably, but after that it will be a decision whether to change it or stick (as Bruce Forsyth said)
