UPDATE - Booting first thing this morning I noticed white screen with black pixels... A reset later it booted OK, and 4MB is now working in TOS - detected by Sysinfo, and the XTRARAM test - tests all OK. There must me some slight issue somewhere that's making it behave a bit intermittantly.
The black dots on first power on were a bit worrying...

Re: STM 4MB RAM UPGRADE
Another update - mystery mostly solved...
It's the good old MMU issue - ie. certain games, flip some bit in the MMU somewhere to alter the RAM config - whereby after a soft reset you can see 4MB with some games / apps, but 512KB with others.
Power off for 2 or 3 seconds, same problem...
Power off for 10 seconds, back to working normally.
On all occasions there "my code" which displays CPU speed and RAM amount always shows 4MB. But sysinfo and xtraram would then see 512KB. (after MMU bits changed to make some game compatible). Obviously after a proper cold reboot (to clear RAM entirely) it works normally!
