Atarian Computing wrote: 08 Sep 2018 15:07 Had a productive day. Missing the floppy cable and a 7402 and the Blitter (oh and the reset switch). Also need a RAM card. Other than that it's pretty much done. I haven't inspected my soldering. I can already see problems. I had soooo much flux goo that I had to clean it with IPA. So I'll go through everything carefully a couple of times. That was so much fun!
:coolpics:

Great work - my day set aside for soldering has not happened yet. Life gets in the way.

:lolbig: :bravo:

Those big caps should probably be lay flat :)

I wouldn't bother with the blitter for now anyway :)

Oh, right. Didn't think of laying them down. Oh well.

7402 installed.

I found this. Will it work standalone and what do the jumpers do?

I never used that type of stuff, probably best idea is to install it on a working stfm and play about with it..

Almost there. Need to go round and do a bit of tidying up on my soldering (its been pretty rubbish to start with but getting better after hours of it) and check for any shorts.

Now waiting on a few more components to help with the build such as SIL sockets for the resistors and the long header pins to fit the Exxos Falcon Ram board.

Have been keenly watching all you others build yours and adapting according to suggestions etc.
  • MIDI Socket mod (see second pic) - cut the front pins off and soldered some pins through and soldered to the ground plate
  • Reset switch onto a header to fit the holes
  • Laying flat the large capacitors

I wonder who is going to breathe life into one of these boards first.

Atarian Computing and I have been discussing about how would we go about first turn on. Its that first flick of the switch that is the nervous moment.

Final checking of boards is key I was just looking over Atarian Computing's pictures and I noticed I put my YM2149F in the wrong way round.

Check, check and check again.

Unfortunately I am not going to be able to get back onto my board until Sunday.

50:50 for a totally black or white screen :P

Plus 50% chance of some chip getting hot for no reason, and 50% chance someones bad soldering is to blame :P

Ah, don't worry about your sound chip, I soldered the rom socket the wrong way round  Fortunately, the chip still fits in it

It won't be me first unfortunately, still got lots of small components to solder up.

Good luck guys, really looking forward to seeing what happens.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Seems you guys are rocketing along with it all!

I'm going to send my board off to be assembled, see if I can catch up a bit as there are a few getting close to power up now...
