I do not suggest the cause, as I don't have enough knowledge to do it ,but still I think it may be relevant to TF in troubleshooting.
You misunderstood me :) But I guess I should have explained better. In fact, I reproduced your findings perfectly. I think our two machines behave in the same way.

I was replying more to the comment of "which ram are you using", because we already know which types of RAMs work so let's not start swapping them for no reason.

Ok the CPLD finally arrived yesterday arvo, still waiting for the memory, I have pinched some off a 536 for now, bit of a PIA re-soldering recycled chips but I wanted to finish the card. ;) .
Finished the build this morning, tested with DiagROM on a 2B Motherboard

Diarom.jpg

Solid as rock on a 2B (with original 3.1 ROMS and firmware dated 21 August) ran a variety of different software over a 3-4 hour period in the backshed. Ambient temperature in the shed was around 32C fairly warm here today. CPLD and CPU temperature were around 45-50C (no heatsinks attached). Considering how hot the ambient was no issues with temperature.

AIBB: 14761 Dhrystones/Sec, Memory 11.96 MB/Sec
Sysinfo: DH0 drive speed 1,771,243 Bytes/Sec

As most have already stated, no issues what so ever with the 2B, will try a 1D4 in the next few days.

Does it boot DiagROM on your 1D4?

need to burn some roms

** Edit

Diagrom works fine on 1d4, sees the TF1230 030 CPU and the 128mb that I have on this Board

I used the Drive test with CF card in the A1200 and diagrom says `No Disk Found`
said it is waiting for the Drive RDY signal

**EDIT 2

So I have some activity using a different CF , was using a Sandisk , also tried Kingston and get couple of flashes and then then to the Kickstart Screen
