haha yeah that would have been something.
Sadly just a textfile but I should really continue it in Atari Works instead :)

To the best of my knowledge these are the ones that are or have been working in the order of first boot but I make no guarantees of the accuracy of this list :)
nowy80retro's ones came as a bit of a cool surprise as I had no idea until I saw the facebook post and raven videos.

Code: Select all

Maybe something *different * from Doom?

https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=120230

OpenLara Tomb Raider engine. The Amiga peeps have apparently have got it down to mid-range '030 systems. Almost playable there. 68060 should be able to handle it with more finesse..

Aww rats, so I am stuck with a Prime? All good though. The fact that it is being built by people outside of the Atari community is quite the outreach!

Edit: Checking that youtube channel and the guy does heaps of Atari stuff and it is all very cool. Just never seen him post in the forums.

I'm slightly awed at the proportion of that early list being 2-at-a-time build frenzies.

I have enough left over parts for maybe 0.37 of another one but I think I'll focus on just setting up the one I have and getting some use out of it :)

I've slowly been acquiring parts for a second one as well.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Have swapped the CPU over and it still boots, which seems like good news.

How do I access the boot menu on Raven? I read in one of the other threads its just hitting DEL at the boot logo but I don't seem to get any boot logo - or it disappears before the monitor can sync - I always land on an EmuTOS desktop insta-quickly (which itself is quite fun - insta-boot seems like a thing of the past!).

Ah yes, you’ll need a disk up and running with rvbios.prg in the auto folder etc for the boot setting to be available.
I was planning on moving that stuff to rom at some point but right now it’s just too convenient for development with standalone programs.

With that in place, it will wait a few moments on the logo screen to give you time to press DEL to enter setup (or press ESC to skip the wait)

Ok that makes sense - I don't have any storage installed yet (waiting for some more stuff) but looking forward to setting that up. Also very happy to see PARCP sitting there in the ROM disk :p

Uhhh... I'm just back from a trip to the US and now enjoying double-ended jetlag. This interrupted the fun!

However I'm looking forward to getting back to the Raven now.

I managed to source a nice 3mm thick x 50mm dia copper disc to sit between the CPU and the cooler I posted about previously. This raises the cooler skirt safely away from the ICs and the resistor network (which I already installed 90' flush to the board) under it. Without the disc, the edge of the cooler just collided with those things.

I built the 2nd RAM board before I went away but have not tested it. Probably it's fine though. IDE storage is also ready to set up, which will let me access the display driver options at boot time.

I have also found some of the 'verry interresting' ISA VGA cards I wanted to experiment with (unfortunately, nothing with a TSENG W32i that I'm prepared to harvest for the chip...). I still need to recover a soundcard and network card from storage but probably not for a few more days at least.

Have a backlog of stuff to do but will post soon on some progress (or related cries for help)....

I tried to partition a HyperDisk DOM IDE module for Raven on the Falcon using HDDriver and it didn't go too well.

The device does register properly on the IDE bus 2.0 with the correct name and sorta allows TOS partitions to be created - but never results in a visible drive. Attempting TOS/Win + byteswap seems to result in no partitions on a rescan.

The fact I can't make a normal TOS partition for TOS 4.04 (ignoring Raven for now) is a bit of a red flag.

I don't think I have a working PC now with old style 44pin IDE support so I'm probably stuck again until I arrange some other storage or figure out how to make this one work.
