Re: Interests in the CT60e still ?

Why? I already said the cost likely be double. Fine if buyers want to pay.

If the community is bothered about a new batch, then someone works it out with nature to get me the files and work out any licensing involved. I dont have time for such conversations.

I can work out costs and get a small batch done. If they sell quickly, I'd consider updating the hardware. It always comes down to demand. If only small number sell, then I'm not investing my time into it. I have enough unpaid work with multiple of my own projects already. So SV will have to have the buyers there to make it worthwhile.

@exxos

Provided Nature gives their licence, I guess you would have to redesign the whole thing, since some components are phased out according to Centuriontech post:

And yeah, the design is using Xilinx EPROMS that have been phased out, do not have a direct replacement and are unavailable on the market anywhere. I have snatched 2 pieces myself, after having a watchdog on eBay for almost 1/2 year.
And if this is not enough the FPGA itself is now available in limited quantities, but it is priced over 160EUR at Mouser. EU VAT not included. All together, I can estimate the final SV price would be well over 500EUR. How crazy is that?

I deal with a lot of specialised suppliers which can get just about anything. The only normal problem is price. As to what the prices are.. No idea as I don't have the BOM. If parts are truly unavailable, then yes the becomes a problem.

I mean I just bought 100 BRAND NEW (but of course old stock) MC68030RC50 CPUs for not really much more than china are selling used parts for. In fact cheaper then UTSOURCE. and yes my suppliers only gets genuine certified parts.

So maybe centurion can't get parts, but maybe I can. If my suppliers can't get them then they really are unobtainable.

I think that the main reason that Centurion tech gave for not going forward on the new batch was the high cost of the parts, and therefore a high final cost, and the fact that he had a hard disk crash and loose his work already done on it.
About the licence, we can ask someone that is in contact with Nature to see if they are open to the idea, it's certainly the first thing to do. Maybe we can ask @Beetle, he said once that he has contact with them.

I'm almost sure that at this point, everybody will be happy with what you can do, HDMI, DVI... as long as a new batch is done :-)

Nonsense, I use CT60e & SuperVidel in the original case every day.
I have never owned a SuperVidel so I can only go on what the CT60e developer Willy wrote. Nice to know it isn't correct.

Nothing is really cheap. Parts I buy, even just 1 part, generally costs around 2-5k. You have to bulk buy to get the deals. Looking at mouser and ebay is no good. Your basically paying scalper prices.

Even though this topic has gone off topic. I wouldn't be considering manufacturing the CT60e again. But from what I remember only about 200 sold. I don't know the sales of the original CT60 but there isn't likely going to be great demand as there's not enough CT60 out there and not many of those may want a SV, to expensive / don't care / already own on.

So like the H5 boards, it's difficult to produce less than 30 units even with mostly common parts readily available. 50 - 100 be better if I have to bulk buy obsolete parts. To me it's always sales which kill projects. The demand is never enough there. 50 people may say they want one, but realistically, 5-10 people will actually pay. So I wouldn't start buying parts unless people start paying costs up front. That's always a huge issue. I can't continue funding projects myself as I don't get enough store sales anymore.

No idea who that is. But the questions need to be asked.

If the hardest part is finding parts, then it just be the cost of the run. I'd open preorders and let the-community decide if the project goes ahead or not.

These days most projects use DisplayPort which is practically the same thing but without requiring a license.

I would be happy to do that or use a 3rd party like Kickstarter or IndieGoGo.

The biggest problem I think for new batch of CT6x is not the cost of the board, but securing Rev6 MC68060RC50 parts at a sensible price (the cheapest I can find tested, genuine parts is £249 + postage)

That's good to know !

So if somebody can get in touch with Nature now...

I can get them but not cheap
viewtopic.php?p=132662#p132662

Prices are always going up on this old stuff. Rev1 can still be obtained much cheaper. But it's questionable if the rev 6 is really as overclockable as people think going by @dml mentioning FPU failures at 80mhz or something like that.

But if people really want the stuff then they need to cough up for it all. Same issue with the CT60e itself. Future work can only happen if there's enough sales for it to make sense. Which seems to be in part why Nature abandoned the project a while ago and things are a lot more expensive now which isn't a good start.

Like I say, first step is for someone to negotiate with Nature. Then I can get a price on building the stuff. Then people either buy it or don't.
