@PhilC

Here is something that might help you in your choice:

https://consolemods.org/wiki/TG16:Turbo ... ifferences

And the Everdrive quoted by @rubber_jonnie is a must-have, although you can get something much more better and IMHO much too pricey:

https://shop.terraonion.com/shop/produc ... 3-pro/view

I would personally get a PC Engine Duo-R or RX, if you want an all-in-one solution or a Core Grafx II for a standalone solution (but you can get a SUPER CD-ROM2 if you really want to play CD-ROMs).

Always good to have lots of info :)

Yes, I agree, too pricey hence my Ali Express recommendation. Unfortunately whilst I would gladly support people who produce these solutions, even I have a budget and when something costs 10x the price of one from Ali Express it's a choice I have to make to extend my budget. I have been called out for it in the past but what can you do? Not that I won't buy the real thing, like with my Saturn I bought a genuine Fenrir ODE, but I can't do that for everything.

Mine is a Duo-R which I bought from Japan, but you just have to watch out for the CD drives, the hub can slip down and cause poor reading of discs or complete failure. That happened with mine but I was able to adjust the hub back up the motor spindle and get it working again. Also with a Duo-R you won't need the video adapter that @HigashiJun mentioned in the Terraonion shop.

My Duo-R also needed a recap.

Well I've bought the one in the pic. I'm not sure if it works or not but that's part of the fun.

I got it primarily for the likes of R-Type which is pretty good on it.

I'll get the AliExpress SD solution. I figured with it having composite and stereo phono out it'd be pretty easy to get up and running with a TV.

I'll let you know when it arrives. (Got to get a controller for it first too).

@PhilC

Yes, as @rubber_jonnie said, recapping is often needed on those consoles.

Since the Everdrive looks a bit lame when used as is, you can have a nice case for it:

You can also consider going for an EDFX:

Which is a nice extension for the PC Engine.

What I would say with this is that with the Duo-R it's got a cover over the card slot and it won't close with one of these fitted. This is mine.

However for a normal PC Engine you'd want some sort of cover like this to make it look nice. Note the switch for TG16 or PCE, position depends on which you have.

@rubber_jonnie

Yes, since you have the DUO you don't need the fancy case.

:)

Although I love my Duo, I do think the white PC-Engine is really iconic, more so than all of the other models.

Yeah, the white one is nice.

@PhilC made a good choice.

It's a great console thats for sure. Mine came with a copy of R-Type on HuCard and it is a brilliant game. One of my favourites is Sidearms and again it has an excellent version for PC-Engine.

Looking forward to seeing you pst about it.

Thanks for your help @HigashiJun & @rubber_jonnie, It should arrive with me tomorrow, so I've ordered a controller and a copy of R-Type on HuCard to go with out. I guess I'll find out if it works tomorrow :)
