Turning on STacy only 2 times out of 10 does it start.

Definitely check it!

Re: Turning on STacy only 2 times out of 10 does it start.
Okay, went back through my files and found a screenshot I'd taken of when I had problems with my screen.
In my ignorance, I had completely taken apart the screen, which is normally not necessary. I really just did
not know that.
Anyway, when I reassembled it, I wound up with what you see below:
I got in contact with Brad at Best Electronics and using the advice he gave, got it working correctly again.
Please note that it took me multiple attempts, and it did not fix the lines all at once, but a bit at a time.
It did finally work though.
Here's a screenshot of his reply with advice on what to do:
I hope this helps...

Re: Turning on STacy only 2 times out of 10 does it start.
Thanks for all these tips. I've done a lot of finger pressure and tapping on the edges of the panel but that line just doesn't come off.
I think I'll fix it later.
I'm actually trying to fix the backlight which is currently not there. Sadly that ground wire didn't solve my problem. I noticed that the internal electroluminescent panel (I discovered that it can be removed easily), is powered by the black connector with white/blue wires and that these are connected directly to the DC/DC. I've read the schematic and it appears that an 85V 590Hz alternating current voltage is flowing here. Could you confirm this for me?
I measured the DC/DC contacts near T101 with a tester (where that connector is actually inserted) but the voltage is at 0V...
Re: Turning on STacy only 2 times out of 10 does it start.
Apologies, but I don't have my STacy apart at the moment and thus no way
to measure that. Sorry!

Ah, I didn't mean for you to measure it directly in your STacy. Since I don't know about electronics, I was just wondering if actually (based on the diagram above), I had seen correctly, that is, that electroluminescent panel needs all that current to light up.Darklord wrote: Thu Dec 22, 2022 9:49 pm Apologies, but I don't have my STacy apart at the moment and thus no way

Backlights do need that high voltage and high frequency. They are effectively fluorescent light bulbs which need to cause a gas to become a plasma.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Oh, okay. Well, I'm not very good at reading diagrams/schematics but Stephen answered so I hope that helps.Roberto wrote: Fri Dec 23, 2022 6:10 am Ah, I didn't mean for you to measure it directly in your STacy. BTW, at one time I was going to power my STacy with one of those Pico P/S's but I couldn't figure out how to
get it to work with the original screen so I switched back to the old P/S. Point being here is a picture of the
P/S that came with the replacement El sheet I put in. You can clearly see the rating for it - it seems to go
along with what you found on the schematic.

Are you measuring with your meter on AC ?Roberto wrote: Thu Dec 22, 2022 8:56 pm I measured the DC/DC contacts near T101 with a tester (where that connector is actually inserted) but the voltage is at 0V...
L106 line you need to backtrack and see if there is voltage there.
Q108 is the oscillator feedback circuit which drives the primary coil.
Re: Turning on STacy only 2 times out of 10 does it start.
Yes, I measured keeping in mind that the voltage is alternating current.exxos wrote: Fri Dec 23, 2022 10:28 am Are you measuring with your meter on AC ?

There is no voltage in that area, not even after L106 and not even on the 3 electrolytic capacitors that are near Q108 (in the capacitors I obviously set the multimeter to direct current).
Do you think it's that Q108's fault? I tried to see if I could find that new component on the internet but by inserting the code written on the front (D1060 R9H1) nothing comes out. I stop here because I don't know what I could do.
ah... Merry Christmas!!!!
Re: Turning on STacy only 2 times out of 10 does it start.
Thanks Darklord and @stephen_usher ! Now I have the confirmation that that connector actually refers to that area of the electronic diagram. One thing that has nothing to do with all this ... I connected ultrasatan (which was in my Mega STE), on the Stacy .. and reads it! It works perfectlyDarklord wrote: Fri Dec 23, 2022 10:13 am ....
