Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
Question for @exxos, the ROMs, are they burned in even odd for the banks or is it low/high?
Oh what I'd give for a Falcon!
Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
@Astal I've managed to duplicate the situation you're in now, with either the computer hanging or the CRC errors.
It is likely a timing issue or something similar. So it sounds like your Rev5 may now be in a working condition, its just we now need to get your ST up to a position that it will work with the Rev5.
Have you carried out all of the mandatory fixes? how much ram do you have? are you good with adding / removing components to see if these will help? and do you have an oscilloscope or access to one?

If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

They are as you download the images from the internet. But you might have to byteswap.Astal wrote: Fri Sep 09, 2022 7:15 am Question for @exxos, the ROMs, are they burned in even odd for the banks or is it low/high?
Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
If my STFM actually works first time , I will see if I can replicate it. Though my STFM doesn't have any fixes. Most of my machines are broken and I never bothered to fix them when I started using the H5s as my daily drivers.PhilC wrote: Fri Sep 09, 2022 9:24 am I've managed to duplicate the situation you're in now, with either the computer hanging or the CRC errors.
Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
My STFM floppy drive doesn't show up on stock TOS104 machine
But on the ST536 it shows the ST536 logo, then does RAM tests, then gets stuck in a resetting loop. But I don't know how ST536 TOS will deal with "no floppy drive".
This is why I gave up with original machines. As I either have to build up a new test board, or spend all day screwing around trying to work out why the floppy drive has stopped working

I'll find a working floppy and attach it to my test board later on and let you know.exxos wrote: Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:51 am My STFM floppy drive doesn't show up on stock TOS104 machineBut on the ST536 it shows the ST536 logo, then does RAM tests, then gets stuck in a resetting loop. Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
Cool. The firmware in my ST536 has slower ROM access speed which might have something to do with it as your getting ROM CRC errors. But don't know why that would happen over a H5 as ROM is on the ST536.PhilC wrote: Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:59 am I'll find a working floppy and attach it to my test board later on and let you know.
Found another motherboard with all the mods done, this one was the one I was testing the IDE drives on. booted up fine as stock, put the ST536 in, dead. But the original CPU and ROM back in.. still dead..
Its why I stay that original machine should just simply be left alone aside from doing mandatory fixes because they just do not like being touched.
Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
Went back to the board with no floppy drive and gave it several hard calibrations and then it booted up just fine..
But like I said you may be worth trying earlier firmware because I have some resistor mods on the bottom of my board as well.
I will make a backup of the current firmware as I think it has slower ROM access and try the one on the website next...

Re: Atari 1040STF with TF536 20 bombs
@exxos ok no worries, I will try that firmware later on when I get time then and see if it makes a difference on my STFM board.

If I could find my programmer and USB extension lead I would try it nowPhilC wrote: Fri Sep 09, 2022 11:33 am @exxos ok no worries, I will try that firmware later on when I get time then and see if it makes a difference on my STFM board.
