Re: [Video] Building the DFB1r5

Post by Badwolf »

I've added a manual assembly BOM to Github.

It's got some Farnell order codes in there and ideally I'll add a few others too. LCSC is the obvious one so the bottom half can be pre-assembled by JLC.

I also did a quick appoximation to parts cost. Fully assembled (all options) you're looking at around £75 (£65+VAT) for components using Farnell + some jellybean ebay parts. Add to that the board which will be between 10 and 15 pounds, plus the processor which will vary from £5 to £50 depending on your speed target and perhaps an FPU (might be able to use an old one) you can see the all-up figure is going to be around that £100 target, even with the processor (say £95-130 all in).

Now, I reckon hand assembly and testing will take about 3.5 hours. Apply your own labour rates as you see fit, but if I were building it the labour would be more than the parts (I'd be charging about £220 without processors, shipping or margin and assuming a 100% yield).

For this reason, I'm not going to building any other than for perhaps a few select test cases. If you'd like one and can't build it yourself, you'll need to appeal to the people who do this properly and can get that labour price down. If you then add in shipping, yield and margin figures, I would hope someone who does this semi-professionally could retail these for under £200 (€240).

To aid this, if anyone wishes to contribute LCSC part numbers or create the JLC BOM+POS files, either submit a push or (perhaps more usefully) post it here.

Cheers,

BW.
