If you want to make your own .ST disk images, you can do so with Hatari.
You will need to configure a GEMDOS drive under Hatari so you have a shared folder between the emulator and the OS, then use Hatari's facility to make blank .ST images, insert the image into Hatari and then copy the files from the GEMDOS folder to the image.
Eject the image, copy it to a USB stick and then you can use it in your Gotek.

Fantastic thank you that is an excellent trick, image made and tests running. Fingers crossed all goes ok :D . Does anyone have an idea roughly how long the tests take?

It should tell pretty fast if something is wrong. But do some loops like an hour or two to test it thoroughly.

Incredibly helpful thank you all, what an amazing community! :thanksyellow:
I ran for >50 cycles on yaart and no errors: Plus I can now run notator on this machine: Hopefully my final annoying questions, I understand that in good practice I should remove the original 512k of ram, when I have done this, can I also remove resistors R59, R60 & R61 that I pulled high to isolate the original ram? Also, can i remove the metal shield can from around the shifter, I dont think I am going to fit it all in for re-assembly!

Yeah remove it if it makes things easier... Normally just leaving the lid off the simple solution.mcdoug wrote: 25 Mar 2021 21:32 Also, can i remove the metal shield can from around the shifter, I dont think I am going to fit it all in for re-assembly!
