-5v - from an ATX psu?

The white wire on atx supply is minus 5v same as that Atari supply'

But as mentioned above.. that has apparently been removed on newer ATX versions.

Although its still possible to get ATX v1.0 supplies.

Interesting I live in Canada and even the latest new psu on the shelf have the minus 5 line as standard on the 20pin and 24 pin connector. Is this a area specific change

No its an ATX version change. But I suspect nothing actually uses ATX v3.0 yet.

Interesting just looked up the ver 3 and pin 20 is now marked nc

I think something could be done with the -12v out side with a 7805 zenier diode and resistor how much current does you need on the -5 this is wasteful and will get warm

Try a simple in4007 diode in the input of the 7905 a few capacitors maybe needed
